Know More about this tour

After pickup from your Queenstown hotel, enjoy a scenic drive by 4WD to Glenorchy, passing instantly recognizable locations from The Lord of the Rings films like Ithilien Camp, Isengard, Forest of Amon Hen and Lothlorien.

Stopping at various viewpoints so you can take photos, your driver will provide informative and interesting facts during the drive, giving you a better sense of connection with the surroundings.

Then continue to the rural region of Paradise, approximately 12 miles (20 km) northwest of Glenorchy. Here you'll discover the location of the Forest of Lothlorien and find a picturesque village at the head of Lake wakatipu known as the Gateway to Paradise.

On your way back to Queenstown, stop at 12 Mile Delta to explore the location of the Ithilien Camp -- the no-man's land between Gondor and Mordor.

Along the way, enjoy some light refreshments and see filming locations from other movies like X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian!

We had an awesome time with Jenny on the half day tour. Beautiful stops, a fun drive with interesting facts shared along the way, highly recommended 😊😊

Absolutely amazing time! With a friendly and enthusiastic tour Guide (Peter) my friends group of 4 had a blast on the off road trails, panning for gold (not much success but was fun) and having a fun goofy, nerdy time.

I'm a huge LOTR fan, and I was not disappointed. You truly get your money's worth as you visit multiple filming locations, all with the expert knowledge and genuine enthusiasm of your driver (who also happens to be very skilled at driving in difficult terrain!). I forgot my driver's name, but she was amazing! This tour is so much more efficient than trying to drive everywhere yourself, and they have knowledge and skills that make the experience so worthwhile. Plus, you get to take pictures with LOTR props! I was so happy by the end of the day. Thanks Nomad!

Fabulous experience with breathtaking view. We had the best lady driver, fun, knowledgeable. We not only get to see the wonderful mountain and river view in the 4WD, we also get to know the history of the town. Have to mention she is also a magnificent singer. Thanks for the nice memories, will do it again for sure.

One of the best activities to do in Queenstown even for non-LOTR fans. The scenery is beautiful and many other films were shot there. The food was delicious and the both the guides- Shane and Francesco - were super knowledgeable and charismatic.

These guys take a lot of pride in what they do, and there’s never been a better time to come and support them. We did a half day trip with Justin - we were the only people in the car, and had an awesome time with him. Great and knowledgeable guide, great route, and just generally a wonderful afternoon - you don’t need to be a lord of the rings fan to have a great time. Thanks guys - we’ll be back to do Macetown!

My wife and I went on this tour by Nomad safaris and had a great time. The scenery was fantastic. We even dressed up in Lord of the Rings outfits and had a sword fight.

  • 30-Mar-2020

We loved Graham and his knowledge and he managed our time well to see every possible stop. We loved dressing up in the woods as hobbits with real weapons. The lunch provided because we booked another same half day tour with them was superb.

We did the full day tour which started with this one. Picked up promptly and you drive up to some locations. WARNING. You do not go to *most* of the locations on the website (you would need a helicopter and more than a day), but rather go to spots where you can see the locations. You do go to some physically (lothlorien forest, where you dress up and play). Our guide Jill was wonderfully chatty, friendly and great at taking pictures of us. You also have a tea and cake stop in the forest. On the full day tour you get a food voucher for a local restaurant in Queenstown which was very good, then do the second half which includes more locations and riding through the river in the 4x4 Overall an enjoyable day, though I would say it was a tad expensive.

This was a super relaxing and fun tour! Rob was our guide and he was very knowledgeable and super personable. Our group had a great time and we learned a lot about different LOTR sites! The views were spectacular as well. Thanks again!
