Stop At: Porta Messina, Taormina, Province of Messina, Sicily
During "The Godfather" tour, you will walk along the authentic picturesque streets of Savoca and Forza d'Agro remained unchanged since the movie was made, visit ancient churches, famous Bar Vitelli where Michael Corleone asked Apollonia's father her hand in marriage, church where they married, and other movie locations.
Optionally, you may taste perfect Sicilian wines and locally produced food sitting on a terrace with a panoramic view of the Ionian coast and surrounding countryside at one of the best wine bars in Savoca, and have traditional fish dinner at a fine fish restaurant in Forza d'Agro.
First stop is Savoca, an unspoilt medieval town that near Taormina that acted as stand-in for Corleone where Michael was hiding out during the "going to the mattresses" time. Here you will visit Bar Vitelli that looks exactly the way it did in the movie, and see the exact spot where Al Pacino informed Apollonia's father that his name was Michael Corleone, and that "there are people who'd pay a lot of money for that information, but then your daughter would lose a father instead of gaining a husband". Here you can take pictures with an authentic Sicilian shotgun "Lupara", see pictures from the movie and a mirror monument for Coppola, enjoy panoramic view of the Mediterranean opening from the square where the wedding ceremony scene was shot, purchase The Godfather souvenirs, and - "leave the gun, take the cannoli" - taste original Sicilian cannoli and lemon granita at Bar Vitelli.
Then you will walk to an ancient church of Santa Lucia, where Michael and Apollonia were married kneeling in the doorway. Then follow the same path down the hill that the newlyweds did, and visit another old church dating back to the 13th century. Walking along the fabulous streets of Savoca, on a good day you can also meet some actors - for example a lady who played Apollonia's mother and who still lives in Savoca.
Later, optionally you can visit Enoteca near Santa Lucia church, and on a terrace with romantic sea view taste Sicilian red and white wines paired with traditional food (locally produced cheeses, salami, prosciutto, caponata, home-made jelly, olives, extra virgin olive oil and fresh home-made bread).
The tour will continue in Forza d'Agro, another stunning hilltop town with a "Godfather" connection. You will walk the abandoned streets ("Where have all men gone?" - "They're dead from vendettas"), explore the historic square and see the pictures from the movie, visit ancient churches, see the piazza where young Vito Andolini (later Vito Corleone) escaped Don Ciccio's men by hiding in a basket on a donkey's back, walk up to see the remains of a 12th century Norman castle, admire delightful panoramic view of the Ionian coastline, and get a flavor of the Sicilian pastoral lifestyle remained unchanged since ancient times.
Then, you can optionally have lunch or dinner at one of the best fish restaurants in Sicily and taste many kinds of traditional fish dishes with Sicilian red and white wines.

We had Marco as our guide, he was wonderful and knowledgeable. He made the day a wonderful experience. He knew exactly where to take us and when to maximize our experience. Marco was so enjoyable to listen to all the real stories of things that happy during filming. He showed us exactly where things happened and the movie came alive as you walked through the very streets as the actors and crew. I think I enjoyed the anecdotes about Francis Ford Coppola more than anything else. This just makes you want to watch the movies all over again. Thank you so much Marco!
Bruno was a great driver and had a wealth of information around the filming of the Godfather. The tour states that snacks and bottled water is included. Well, we were never offered any snacks and 4 hours into the trip I asked for water and there was none in the vehicle. Bruno had to stop and purchase the water. Also, we paid for the dinner tasting and received a very small antipasto plate (2) for both my husband and I, some cold meats and eggplant. All cold. I wouldn't recommend including this as part of your trip. I will say that Bruno brought over some dough that they made to make the pasta but later on we found out that it wasn't part of our tasting. The waiter tried to "sell" us the pasta as an addition to what we paid which was $400.70. We can say we did agree the tour but everything else was terrible.
Our guide, Bruno, was really funny and interesting. We had a good time and we especially love the town of Savoca. But the time between the "dégustation" and the lunch was to close, so we were not hungry at all the enjoy the nice plate of fish.
Beautiful tour of Savoca and Forza D'Agro and the making of the Godfather movies !! Bruno was extremely knowledgeable about the history and countryside and Sicilian history as well!! It was an amazing day !!!!
Marco was absolutely amazing! He provided so much in depth knowledge about The Godfather, and his passion for his home town and surrounding area is palpable ! Highly recommend !!
This tour made our day in Sicily! Our guide Marco was fabulous! Cannot say enough good things about him. He truly made the day. He knew the area, picked out the best restaurant with wonderful food in the perfect location! We did a cruise and he was right there waiting for us with a sign when we got off the ship! The beautiful countryside, the sites Marco took us to, was truly a dream! Thank you Viator and Marco for the awesome day we will never forget!
My husband and I completed a tour with Marco last week and it did not disappoint! Our guide was Marco whom was so kind and extremely informative throughout the entire tour. We visited 2 cities and he took tons of photos for us! We had the best time and also loved our wine and food tasting that was also exceptional! This experience made our trip to Sicily no doubt!
Marco was a completely awesome tour guide! He is very friendly and personable, and he took us to all the places where the Godfather scenes were filmed. We got cappuccinos at Bar Vitelli and bought souvenirs in the store nearby. Marco even recorded a video for us of my boyfriend and me dancing where Michael and Kay danced in Godfather 3 which we will cherish forever! He knows everything about the Godfather movies and the making of the movies, and we learned about the history of the Cosa Nostra in Sicily. We learned a lot about Sicily with Marco. This tour was the highlight of our trip to Sicily! A must for any Godfather fan! We will definitely be back!
My husband and I started this tour at 11:00 am with Marco navigating the way....it was spectacular. Marco not only shared with us his own personal story and love for Sicily, but provided us intricate historical details about Savoca that I am not sure others would know. His enthusiasm, knowledge and willingness to make everything special - even take pictures in the pouring rain - made this our favorite experience in Sicily. The cheese and wine tasting is a must, and be sure to ask for Marco for your tour guide; you will not be disappointed!
We were in Sicily for 9 days and dicided to take The Godfather walking you with ! Let me tell you Mariolina our guide was the BEST guide we have had since we were in Sicily! She was so knowledgeable and sweet! She even took us to meet The woman who was the little girl in the wedding scene! Just loved her! And our driver Louisa was wonderful and efficient driving us all around those narrow roads! Also we did the wine tasting which was well worth the money! We tasted three types of wine and had three types of salami and cheeses! We have used in the past and whenever we travel will always use in the future!! This tour I would highly recommend to anyone who loves the movie of The Godfather!
