Know More about this tour

Hotel pickups for this 8-hour tour around the Golden Circle take place between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., with the aim to leave Reykjavik by about 10:15 a.m.

Your first stop of the day is at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Thingvellir National Park. Take a walk into the rift valley between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, and learn about one of the world's first parliaments, the Althing.

Next, continue heading eastward over the small mountain pass, Lyngdalsheidi, toward the town of Laugarvatn, which lies within the Golden Circle. The town has a population of about 200, and lies predominantly along the west side of the lake. The lake contains geothermal springs under its surface, making it a popular swimming spot with some warm patches along the shoreline. Keep moving along to the amazing waterfall Gullfoss or the “Golden Falls“, which is an iconic waterfall of Iceland, located in the glacial river Hvítá.

There will also be an opportunity to pick up some lunch (own expense) at the on-site cafe, just a 10-minute drive away from Gulfoss, the geothermal area with the famous hot spouting Geyser named Strokkur. Walk around the colorful area surrounded by hot springs with names like The Blower, Litli Geysir, The Handyman, and The Bucket. After that, pay a short visit to the small but beautiful waterfall Faxi (or Vatnsleysufoss). The waterfall is located on the Tungufljót river.

Afterward, drive south and stop at Kerid, a 6,000-year-old volcanic crater lake located in the Grímsnes area. It's one of several crater lakes in the area, known as Iceland's Western Volcanic Zone. The caldera, like the other volcanic rock in the area, is composed of a red (rather than black) volcanic rock.

Your last main stop on your tour is in Hveragerdi, a town with many hot springs. From here, ride back toward Reykjavik. The day finishes with a drop-off at your centrally located hotel around 6 p.m.

  • Our tour guide/driver was Carlos - a transplanted Icelander who obviously enjoys his adopted home immensely. He was having some technical difficulty with the headset he had, but got it fixed and was able to give us a ton of information along the way. He handled an unexpected traffic situation wonderfully. The tour sites are amazing. The best food options were at Geysir. There was plenty of time to explore each of the areas. I would highly recommend this tour.

  • Amazing Island to be explored. Our Guide Carlos was very informative even though there was a problem with the sound system.
He got the system to work after our 1st stop and he worked very hard to make our tour very enjoyable. Saw lots of sites, Geysers, Hot Springs, Craters and Water Falls of Iceland. Differently a Tour group to book with..

  • The information sent before the trip didn't go into detail about where the pick-ups for the trip would be so subsequently the start of the trip was delayed by more than a few of us not being picked up on time and the driver having to come back to pick me up from a different spot, but this only happened as a friend of mine was also on the trip and told the driver where i was! - No-one answered the contact number given! The golden circle itself is really touristy, but there is much more to see around Iceland outside of this.

  • Pros: You're crazy if you don't include Kerid in your GC trip, it was perhaps the coolest of all the sights we saw in Iceland on this and the South Coast tour. The bus was nice cramped, but not unlike any other options available and clean. The USB charging ports were also clutch to keep our phones charged wifi on board.
Cons: We had a bachelorette part of 8 on our trip... they were 20 mins late for pickup and rain was looming. We finally got on the road, only to leave Reykjavik and have to circle back because a different party missed the bus. I believe the tour operator should have made them take a cab and catch up, because by the time we doubled back we started an hour late due to both groups missing pickup. By then it was pouring and rained at a few of our stops, when I feel like had we been on time at least 1 or 2 would've been dry. Further, we got back on time so we must have shorted our time at certain stops although only felt rushed once Just didn't seem fair to the other 9 of us on time on the bus. All that's to say, I think the operator should have a better protocol in place for something like this, it put the guide in a tough spot. I don't fault him, he was just too nice and accommodating. Just started the day off on a sour note. Also think this guide was more quiet / less informative than others in our days in Reykjavik, but maybe thats just the GC tour in general?

Overall it was good, hit all the spots you need to, and had about enough time at each spot. Our guide, Carlos, was courteous but could have done a little better job explaining sights but to his credit he said he was quiet and concentrating on difficult driving in the rain. We always felt safe and did enjoy each of the stops two extra stops included seeing and feeding some horses and an extra waterfall. Really just frustrated others on our trip didn't value our time, I'm sure the typical experience would be better than ours.

  • Great tour. Ended up being only 7 people which was ideal. Our guide Charlie was knowledgeable and down to earth - he made a bunch of unscheduled stops to show us additional sights which is definitely above and beyond. Best tour of our 3+ week journey in Scandinavia!

  • We had a brilliant day learning about the history and geology of Iceland. It was a small group so we were able to say how long we wanted at each stop and Carlos was happy to answer any questions. This trip stopped at lots of places which other more expensive ones missed and was excellent value for money. I would thoroughly recommend booking this trip!!

  • Carlos was amazing. So nice and has great stories about the history of Iceland. He stopped at an an additional 4 surprise location. Great tour!

  • A fabulous day. Our tour guide, Hawk, added to the enjoyment with his knowledgeable and entertaining commentary.

  • Karlos the driver and tour guide was super nice and made bonus stops for extra waterfall views, ice cream, and bathroom stops. He was super knowledgeable about the history and geology of the area. Excellent safe driver too.

  • This was a brilliant tour and I can't recommend our guide, Charlie, highly enough. He was both hugely knowledgeable and entertaining also. He was also very safety conscious and drove according to the conditions when we hit a stretch of open road where the wind was particularly strong. The sights you see on the trip are spectacular and, having some time in hand, Charlie made at least three unscheduled stops to show us other Icelandic wonders not even mentioned in the pre-tour description. If you do decide to go on the Golden Circle trip, this is definitely THE one to choose.
