Know More about this tour

Hotel pickups for this 8-hour tour around the Golden Circle take place between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., with the aim to leave Reykjavik by about 10:15 a.m.

Your first stop of the day is at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Thingvellir National Park. Take a walk into the rift valley between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, and learn about one of the world's first parliaments, the Althing.

Next, continue heading eastward over the small mountain pass, Lyngdalsheidi, toward the town of Laugarvatn, which lies within the Golden Circle. The town has a population of about 200, and lies predominantly along the west side of the lake. The lake contains geothermal springs under its surface, making it a popular swimming spot with some warm patches along the shoreline. Keep moving alongto the amazing waterfall Gullfoss or the Golden Falls, which is an iconic waterfall of Iceland, located in the glacial river Hvt.

There will also be anopportunity to pick up some lunch (own expense) at the on-site cafe, just a 10-minute drive away from Gulfoss, the geothermal area with the famous hot spouting Geyser named Strokkur. Walk around the colorful area surrounded by hot springs with names like The Blower, Litli Geysir, The Handyman, and The Bucket. After that, pay a short visit to the small but beautiful waterfall Faxi(or Vatnsleysufoss). The waterfall is located on the Tungufljt river.

Afterward, drivesouth and stopat Kerid, a 6,000-year-old volcanic crater lake located in the Grmsnes area. It's one of several crater lakes in the area, known as Iceland's Western Volcanic Zone. The caldera, like the other volcanic rock in the area, is composed of a red (rather than black) volcanic rock.

Your last main stop on your tour is in Hveragerdi, atown with many hot springs. From here, rideback toward Reykjavik. The day finishes with a drop-off at your centrally located hotel around 6 p.m.

  • Brilliant day out and a brilliant tour guide. Even braved the storms battling Iceland when many other tour operators dared not leave the relative safety of Reyjavik.
Beware of the Geysir though! I stood right up at the barrier in order to get that once in a lifetime photo, only to be drenches! Not so fun when its already -4 so take waterproofs or step back!

  • With a smaller group you can get around a little quicker and drop into Kerid which cannot take big buses so an excellent tour. Communication with the host could be better - especially where and when the pick up points are we had to make many attempts and in the end an internet search was the only way to get in contact with them: going through Viator seemed to make that more difficult which is not what i expect from Viator.

  • Fantastic Trip! Our guide Carlos did an amazing job in telling us the history of the area. He drove an ancient mini-bus that day but he dealt with it very well. Carlos mentioned that it is not their usual type of vehicle but it was that ancient vehicle or cancel the tour. We are happy that the tour was not cancelled. It is a small group so you get personalized service. He took us to the Kerid crater first, which was a very good idea because of the short daylight in the Fall. The sites Gulfoss waterfall, Geysir, and national park were amazing

  • It was amazing me and my wife loved this tour once in a life time experience

  • Even we had some rain shower but Carlos made our trip so memorable, he is the best. We enjoyed every moment on this trip. Thanks!

  • Excellent trip by Carlos. Picked up on time from my hotel. Very nice mini-bus with power and wifi on board. Carlos took us to all the major sights, and more! He provided great knowledge of Iceland during the day trip. No complaints, and a great experience. Much better than if I had gone on a 50 seat coach bus, I think!

  • My 11 year old daughter and I did this trip in late July. This Golden Circle with Kerid, a dormant volcano was terrific. Steven the tour guide from Costa Rica was very well informed, a genuine nice and great people person. The mini bus was very comfortable and clean. Charging points at each seat was invaluable. The tour covered everything mentioned and was amazing, as time allowed Steven even made one or two small extra stops. The scenery was amazing, it was a pleasure to see so much natural beauty. We were really happy we chose the '.... with Kerid we got to walk to the bottom of the volcano, touch the small lake below, colours were stunning.
This is my 2nd time using Viator, previously in New York and I would highly recommend them for an excellent trip in every aspect. Also very good value for the price paid approx 85US.

  • great small group with enthusiastic and informative guide

Didn't feel too touristy and lots of time given at each spot.

  • A bit soggy and very fun.

  • WOW! The landscape in Iceland is out of this world amazing. Our tour guide was Carlos who we felt was very informative and friendly. He brought us to every spot scheduled on this tour and stopped along the way for us to pet horses, take pictures, etc. This tour is priced very well and a must do while you're in Iceland hopefully you also get Carlos.
