Know More about this tour

The first stop of the day is the town Hveragerði, where we have a short restroom stop. Hveragerði is about 45 min drive from Reykjavik. There are restrooms, a bakery and an exhibition about earth quakes. Consider this a short pit-stop on our way to the Golden Circle.
Faxi is sometimes called the little brother of Gullfoss, it is a small but beautiful waterfall in the Golden Circle area. Through Faxi runs the salmon fishing river Tungufljót.There are viewing platforms from up above the waterfall and guests can also have an intimate experience as they walk almost all the way up to Faxi. Despite its small stature compared to Gullfoss, up close its strength can not be denied.
Gullfoss, is one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland. It is powerful and tall. Through it the river Hvítá, which is a glacier river originating from Langjökull, plunges down this two step waterfall. There are a handful of viewing platforms to observe the waterfall and above Gullfoss there is Gullfoss center where there are restrooms, a cafeteria and gift shops.NOTE: The path leading all the way up to the waterfall is closed during the winter season.
Myrkholt is a farm located in between Geysir and Gullfoss. The owners are welcoming and friendly, but the woolmarket allocates beautiful home made woolen sweaters, hats, gloves etc. from the neighbouring farms. All made with local wool by the local farmers. There are a handful of horses, foals, sheep and during late spring there are new born lambs to see there as well. Its simply a wonderful stop to make, especially for animal lovers and children! The horses especially are very photogenic and are always willing to strike a pose for their guests :)
In Haukadalur there is a field of hot springs associated with the hot spring Geysir, but Geysir is one of the most famous hot spring in the world and used to be a geyser. The main display is the hot spring geyser Strokkur, which erupts approximately every 5 minutes. Here we have time to walk around the area and this is also where we break for lunch. At Geysir center you find restrooms, gift-shops and the restaurant Glíma which serves for suitable for any pallet or diet.
Þingvellir is full of history and natural beauty. It stands between the North-American and Eurasian tectonic plates. This rift valley has a special place in the hearts of all Icelanders. It is where our nation was formed by the Norse Viking settlers when they established the oldest parliament in the modern world, Alþingi Íslendinga, in the year 930 AD.At this stop there will be enough time to walk around and explore this natural marvel. This is the closest you can get to being in two continents at the same time. We will have the opportunity to walk in the rift valley, where the tectonic plates are pulling apart. We can observe this movement since under the national park the Eurasian and the North-American tectonic plates are moving apart by ~2 cm every year. Þingvellir was designated as a World Heritage of UNESCO in 2004 and is unquestionably one of the most beautiful and historic places in Iceland. In the area there are restrooms and coffee shops for visitors.

The trip starts out with a scrum to find the bus you are going on. Several hundred people waiting and no identification on busses. The excursion could easily be a 6 hour excursion instead of 9. The driver stopped at a small mall and a farm to see 5 horses in stalls to fill out the time.

Our tour guide Ævar was great. He had so many interesting facts and stories. It was a very warm day and sadly the air conditioning was not working at the end of the tour.

Our guide was Andre. We had a great experience seeing the main attractions. Andre made the tour interactive, narrated our journey well, and showed us around, including some spots off the beaten path. All in all, it was a wonderful experience.

The whole trip was made as great as it could be, André was 100% in every department. The only thing we cannot credit André for was the weather.

  • 23-Aug-2023

Seeing the place where the 2 plates are coming apart at a rapid rate. It makes geology real. I especially liked to be able to walk down to the river and see the waterfalls. I’m

Learning about the geographical history of Iceland. Driver was very knowledgeable. Think I'd prefer smaller bus as we were a large group.
