Overview

A guided visit around the interiors of the Royal Chapel and Cathedral as youve never seen them before. Youll be guided around the most impressive Gothic and Renaissance monuments in Andalusia by experts who are specialists in Granada.
The Cathedral of Granada, built on the site of the former Great Mosque, is a grandiose monument of 16th century architecture and an imposing symbol of the power of Christendom.
Alongside it is the smaller but equally beautiful Royal Chapel, home to the tombs of the Catholic Kings and the final resting places of Juana la Loca and Felipe el Hermoso.
Well examine the symbols of these magnificent monuments from a historical, political and architectural perspective and their significance in a city that was creating a new identity for itself.
Dont miss out on the chance to experience the Cathedral and Royal Chapel with your own private group.

Know More about this tour

We will look at their interiors to discern the reason for the locations chosen for each building, the political and ideological reasons behind the symbols they contain and the change in attitudes that was taking place in a city which had been, until recently, completely Muslim.

We will show you the Royal Chapel, which is the burial chamber of the Catholic Kings, Isabel and Fernando, who chose this city as the place to build their mausoleum, the largest in the country. Inside there are the beautiful tombs made of Carrara marble and one of the finest examples of ironwork in Spain, and an important collection of Flemish painting belonging to queen Isabel.

As well, we will visit the interior of the first cathedral in the Renaissance style in Spain, and the second largest in the country. Raised in the heart of the city of Granada, its purpose was to show the world the importance of the city and the changes that affected it. Amid its enormous size, the high altar of the Cathedral of Granada is, unlike any previous altar, completely circular. It is accompanied by the most interesting collection of works by the important local artist Alonso Cano.

This private tour was great and Stephanie was very fun and informative. She knew so much about the history and the art of both the Chapel and Cathedral and was so enthusiastic! The only issue I had- and this had nothing to do with her- was that it was very expensive. We did other private tours in Southern Spain that were half as expensive and just as good.
