Know More about this tour

The excitement begins at the historic 1908 Williams Depot. Before the train departs you will be entertained by a Wild West shootout featuring the Cataract Creek Gang in an outdoor theater. Shop in one of two gift shops, or enjoy a hearty buffet breakfast (not included) before departure at the Grand Depot Cafe next to the depot.

Then, hear the train whistle pierce the fresh morning air, beckoning passengers for a trip on the old iron horse to the Grand Canyon. Uniformed coach attendants provide you with white-gloved courtesy and service. Aboard the train, enjoy the tunes of strolling musicians who conduct sing-a-longs, an Old West train robbery, and the antics of western characters as they recreate train travel as it was back in 1901.

The train arrives at the historic 1910 Grand Canyon Depot, the only remaining log depot still in operation in the United States. Buildings like the El Tovar Hotel, Hopi House and Bright Angel Lodge salute arriving guests as you pull into the station and disembark from the train. A narrated motorcoach rim tour of the Grand canyon national park enhances your visit by escorting you to the most scenic overlooks of the canyon. Upgrade to include a hot buffet lunch!

  • Coach Class - Budd Coach, named after famous Budd Manufacturing Company, are streamline era coaches built in the 1950's and are air-conditioned and heated in the cooler months. Soft drinks and bottled water are available for purchase on board.

The ride through the Arizona countryside to the Grand Canyon was wonderful. Would do this again and again.

This package is everything it's reported to be and more. From the moment we boarded the car that we had been assigned, to the time we stepped off the train upon return to Williams, AZ, the whole experience added a very special element for travel to the Grand Canyon. My wife and I were pleased with our choice of the Luxury Dome car (one of two, it appeared on this day) for a very comfortable and entertaining few hours to the canyon and back. There are lesser options (such as the "Coach" cars), but I highly recommend the dome car or the first class car if your budget allows. Rest assured that the timetable allows for almost four hours (in the high season period that ends October 31) for enjoying the park and marveling at the canyon from various vistas, and shortens to three hours or so during the slower season. I found that short hikes, shopping and eating lunch was very manageable in that amount of time. Although this was a train ticket + lodging package, I will separate my thoughts about the Grand Canyon Hotel to a separate review.

A lovely day out by train to the Grand Canyon South Rim. It was great to leave the car behind and not worry about driving. We chose the first class option and this suited us perfectly. The seating was comfortable, not crowded and there was room to move around up and down the carriage. The staff were great, friendly, fun and welcoming. Sharon regaled us with amusing stories and interesting facts about the area and history of the railway. A wonderful day out.

We purchased a package that included 2 nights at the hotel 2 breakfasts, 2 dinners, a return trip to the Grand Canyon (approx 2 hours each way) and a bus trip at the Canyon. The hotel is excellent spacious high quality and clean. The meals are superb and the trips were so much fun. The entire package was great value for money. I cannot emphasize enough how this is just the best experience we have had in years. If you are thinking of visiting the Canyon please consider this you won't regret it.

Our time was good. I wrote a long review and it erased when I uploaded pic =( Overall glad we went. Bus tour and tour guide GREAT!!!! Train host was good but talked over speaker most of the time there and back which may be the protocol? For me personally was to much, would of liked more relaxing enjoying the views and atmosphere of the vintage car we were in. Entertainment was good, our train was robbed, all in fun and the Sheriff was funny too! Snacks, beverages and lunch also good! Glad we booked this!

This was a really fun time! It’s a great way to experience the Grand Canyon more like the way vacationers saw it a century ago. For vacationers looking to “maximize” their time at the Grand Canyon, you will likely want to combine this trip with an overnight stay at one of the hotels located directly at the South Rim, as time spent actually touring the rim is a little limited (not SHORT per se, just not as long as it would be through other touring methods); that’s not a shortcoming of the trip, but due to the fact that this tour is all about the entire trip experience from departure to return… not just the “touring” part - which can be resolved by an overnight stay at the rim and a return trip the next day. I only did the one-day trip (did not stay overnight)… but still loved it! Getting “robbed” by the Cataract Lake gang was a lot of fun! #winkWink

the view by the hotel was beautiful. The staff on train and at the shuttle were wonderful and caring and loaned me a wheel chair after I fell off curb by tour bus.

Disappointing experience, rooms are inadequate, food was good. Entertainment was on a scale of terrible to cheesy. Entertainer in restaurant was so loud you could not carry on a conversation and entertainer in the train was just plain terrible! Directions to lunch on the first day were awful having us wondering around. And nobody you ask for directions seemed to know or care. Walking to the village is not feasible unless your young or use to 7,000 ft altitude! Thank good for shuttles.

The Grand Canyon tour was great if the guide was a little verbose. "Conductor" on the way home pushed gratuities way too much and "robbers" we're too insistent on "robbing" passengers.
