We pass by the Terry Fox statue. Terry Fox was an athletic young man whose right leg had to be amputated because of cancer. Convinced that it was his mission to call attention to the plight of other cancer sufferers, and defying then-conventional assumptions about people with missing legs, Terry announced that he would run across Canada - over 4,500 miles - in the Spring and Summer of 1980. He made it two-thirds of the way on his "Marathon of Hope," but the cancer spread, and he passed away before completing the journey.

We drive past the David Foster Foundation Theatre, part of the Oak Bay Beach Hotel. David Foster is a local boy, musician, record producer, composer, songwriter, and arranger. Foster has won 16 Grammy Awards, including three Grammy Awards for Producer of the Year, and has been nominated a total of 47 times. He has been nominated three times for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

We pass by the Netherlands Centennial Carillon, a 62-bell carillon dedicated by Queen Juliana of the Netherlands in thanks for Canada's role in the liberation of the Netherlands during World War II.

We drive by both the past and present locations of the Greater Victoria Public Library, that relocated to it's current location in 1991. In 1905, the Andrew Carnegie built library building, that was the previous location, opened. It was used as a movie set in the Mel Gibson movie, "Bird on a Wire."

We pass by the Bay Street Armoury, home to the Canadian Scottish Regiment. They are the primary reserve infantry regiment of the Canadian Army based on Vancouver Island.The regiment's history starts in 1912, and it has become Canada's most decorated infantry regiment, receiving six Victoria Crosses for extreme bravery.
