Know More about this tour

Meet your knowledgeable local guide at White Sands Beach where you board your air-conditioned coach.
First, head to the former US Air Force base, where NASA tracked space launches in the late 1950s and 1960s. On Feb 20, 1962, when astronaut John Glenn became the first American to orbit Earth, his spacecraft the Friendship 7 splashed down in the waters off Grand Turk. Glenn was taken to this base, where Vice President Lyndon Johnson arrived several days later to congratulate him.
Motor along historic Duke Street, where a number of dive shops, small hotels, and 19th-century Bermuda-style houses are located. Your coach stops for about 15 minutes so you can walk around the historic buildings and souvenir shops. You might want to purchase a snack or refreshment to sample the local flavors.
After exploring downtown, reboard your coach and drive north to the highest point of Grand Turk, at the end of the island. Stop at the lighthouse and snap photos of the landmark beacon that sits atop limestone cliffs.
Continue past centuries-old salt ponds and the nearby Salt Museum. Your guide explains the history of the salt trade in the Turks, where islanders once used the ponds to harvest the mineral to sell as an export. You might glimpse endangered pink flamingos, and brown pelicans in this area, or even catch sight of wild horses that roam the island!
After 90 minutes, return to your starting point where your tour ends. When it's finally time to end your trip on Grand Turk Island, keep an eye out for a replica of the Friendship 7 at the entrance of the JAGS McCartney International Airport.

  • Great tour of Bonaire. Guide did a wonderful job and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Well worth the money.

  • Mama J was our tour guide and she was excellent. She and her husband seem like wonderful people who love their island. She gave us a wonderful tour of Grand Turk in an air conditioned van. There's not a ton of things to see as most of Grand Turk is ruins of things that used to be there like the salt flats and military bases, but Mama made all that interesting for us. There were a few stops which were great, like shopping in Cockburn Town and a quaint and very picturesque beach. I'm definitely glad I chose this tour for my family to learn more about Grand Turk, rather than just spending the entire time at another beach by our ship. Well done!

  • Papa J's Tours was excellent. We really enjoyed our tour of Grand Turk. Job, our guide, was a native of the island. He was very knowledgeable about the history as well as current events. We saw John Glenn's capsule, the salt flats, the governor's mansion, and the lighthouse. We would highly recommend this tour.

  • Papa J tours were excellent, our tour guide was the wife of the owner. A beautiful and informative guide. We enjoyed this tour around Grand Turk immensely. Would definately recommend this tour. You can sign up directly through Papa J Tours and save a little money.
Always remember to check land time, because it was different then ship time. We almost missed our tour.

  • The driver was very knowledgable, and enjoyed hearing about Grand Turk.

  • Dwight was an excellent tour guide. Having grown-up on the Island, he was a historian as well as knew all the locals! He was courteous, helpful, friendly and a wonderful tour guide. His wife was an excellent host as well. I highly recommend to see the Island of Grand Turk!!

  • Jolene did a great job!

  • informative, great for older people with mobility issues...otherwise much better and active things to do and see

  • we were there on a Sunday which meant it was very quiet on the Island. The tour guide did a very nice job of explaining the history of the Island and the various sites. The Lighthouse is a bit of a disappointment.

  • Not a lot to see, but this tour gave a good insight to island life. Our driver was knowledgeable and eager to make the trip enjoyable. We enjoyed the time we spent on the tour.
