Grande-Terre Island Day Tour
OverviewLa Grande-Terre, the east wing of the butterfly island, accounts for most of Guadeloupes population. It is a limestone plateau surrounded by coral reef. Its surface is a series of rolling hills (les Grands Fonds), white sand beaches and cliffs. It shelters the majority of Guadeloupe's farmlands and tourist resorts. The windblown shores of the east side are a big draw for surfers and kiteboarders, while the southern beaches, with their white sand and calm waters, are where most of the hotels, villas, restaurants and clubs are located.

Meet us at 8:30 am in Sainte-Anne for this day tour. At the heart of Sainte-Anne, the town following Le Gosier, going east, the beach is a delight for visitors and locals alike, thanks to its fine sand, quiet waters and its market which offers a wide variety of products : handmade local art, fruits, spices, as well as rum and clothes. Before noon, we'll drive further east to La Maison De La Noix De Coco (The coconut house). It is a craft museum located on the way to La Pointe des Chateaux and is a well noted for manufacture and sale of craft items produced by over 25 artisans from Guadeloupe. The crafts are made from natural material such as seeds, coconut, wood, calabash, leather and palm. A vast amount of crafted items are on sale, such as, jewelry, art, sculpture, household items, souvenirs, picture frames etc.
We will make a quick stop for a photo souvenir at La Douche, this jet of sea water that pours into a natural pool of fine white sand, then we'll stop for lunch.
In the early afternoon we'll drive further east, after the town of Saint-François and its international golf course, to La Pointe des Chteaux, a protected peninsula reaching far within the Atlantic ocean and famous for the wild beauty of its scenery reminiscent of Brittany. Listed as a Great National Site, this sea spray-kissed land, which takes its name from the shape of its rocks, can be explored along a steep trail that begins near the beautiful beach of Anse des Chteaux. A nice walk of about 1 hour, where you can admire preserved flora and extraordinary landscapes, especially from the top of the headland adorned with a cross and two orientation tables. From there, enjoy an exceptional view of the island of Grande-Terre, the rocks of the Castles Headland, the Atlantic Ocean and the island of Désirade in the distance!
