Know More about this tour

Your Great Ocean Road tour begins with panoramic views as you leave Melbourne and cross the West Gate Bridge. Youre soon on the coast, passing world-famous Bells Beach, host of the World Surfing Championships.

Relax on the drive as the winding Great Ocean Road hugs the coast, running beside a string of surf beaches to reach the seaside holiday resort of Apollo Bay.

After lunch (own expense), continue your journey along the legendary Great Ocean Road to the limestone rock formations known as the Twelve Apostles. Once joined to the coast, see how the rocks have been eroded over millions of years into the craggy pillars you see today. Go for a stroll along the cliff top or follow winding beach trails at this beautiful wild and windy spot.

At Loch Ard Gorge, hear how this dramatic landscape has a tragic side, as you listen to the tale of the British ship Loch Ard that ran aground near Muttonbird Island in 1878. The two sole survivors came ashore at sheltered Loch Ard Gorge, where you can read the plaques describing why this stretch of shoreline is known as the Shipwreck Coast.

Your last stop on the Great Ocean Road is the seaside village of Port Campbell, sheltered by the surrounding cliffs and Norfolk pines. Browse the boutiques and galleries, or stop for afternoon tea (own expense) at one of the town's many cafes.

Relax on the return trip to Melbourne, returning to the city at around 7:30pm.

  • Tour was well coordinated and executed. A long day. Since we visited during the Christmas to New Year break, every place along the road was crowded and felt that we didn't get enough time to take in the scenery. Felt a bit rushed. Richard was an excellent tour guide and a skilled driver. He managed to get us through overflowing parking lots without wasting a lot of time

  • My husband and I had a great time on this tour. Our driver Joe was informative, courteous and a general all round nice guy. Plenty of time was given at each stop. Good value and as it the Great Ocean Road was very busy we felt that it certainly beats driving yourself.

  • The Twelve apostles are really awesome but the 12/h trip is too long, especially if you want do it with kids. My experience was particularly negative due to our driver who was really unfriendly: all the kids on the bus were sick due to the driving on the windings road of the Great Ocean Road and when we asked him to stop or to drive slowly he didn't do that and didnt helped us at all. I think you should highlights that the driving on such road is extremely uncomfortable and you should add to your trips the direct trip to the twelve apostles without any stop in Apollo Bay and Port Campbell where is useless to stop as there is nothing to do/see. It seems you bring tourists there only to spend money into the coffee shops/restaurants.

  • Tour guide from AATKING was great - gave a lot of background history of what occurred and what is occurring. It is a must-see day tour for sure.

  • It was a great tour even though it was raining throughout the day.
Nevertheless, the rain stop for a while when we reached the 12 Apostles, which was a blessing.
Our guide Richard from AAT Kings was a wonderful chap with his explanations throughout the whole journey.
And not forgetting his dry humour which drew quite a lot laughter from us.
definitely will recommend this tour to anyone who wish to explore the 12 Apostles.

  • The highlight of our trip to Australia. Amazing scenery. Adrian, our driver/tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and he apparently enjoys what he does. A very pleasant day.

  • I was only in Melbourne for a week so by the time I had explored the city, I didn't have much time but I still wanted to do a day trip. I'm really glad I chose the Great Ocean Road trip with AAT Kings. The tour guide/bus driver, Adrian, was excellent and knowledgeable about the city and the destinations along the Great Ocean Road. His commentary was engaging and it was evident he is passionate about his job.

It was a long day 12 hours but if you only have a limited amount of time like I did, I think it is worth it. It's a lot of time spent sitting on the coach so make sure you dress comfortably and maybe bring a book/music to keep you entertained on the long drive back to Melbourne. Also, it is pretty much a whistle stop tour - you don't get a huge amount of time at each of the destinations. Adrian advised buying food/snacks at the first stop toilet break and I'm glad I did as when it came to getting lunch at Apollo Bay, a lot of the restaurants and cafes were really busy so I just ate what I'd bought at the first stop for my lunch while sitting on the beach!. I'm glad I did this as it gave me a bit more time to explore the other shops and I even had time to send some postcards and buy an ice cream! If you go to the restaurants as opposed to a takeaway/bakery/supermarket to buy food, Adrian advised telling them you only have an hour until you have to be back on the bus. I thought this might feel a bit rushed personally!

The first tourist stop is the Great Ocean Road sign and the second stop is the Twelve Apostles, which are pretty spectacular and were the reason I wanted to go on the trip. It was really busy lots of other tour buses at all of the stops, but especially at the Twelve Apostles so you do have to fight your way through the crowds to get photos. Also you don't have enough time to do the helicopter trip over them so if you want to do that, this isn't the tour for you.

Loch Ard gorge was really interesting and stunning. It was a shame as it wasn't until I'd finished walking around the cliffs that I realised there was a little beach cove you can get down to via some steps and I didn't have enough time to actually go down there. The final tourist stop was London Arch, which was much less busy and easier to get photos of.

One negative of it being a fairly large tour group is that it's easy to get held up if someone is late back to the bus. This happened more than once the same couple and this did delay our return to Melbourne. Also, as I was due to be dropped at Federation Square I wasn't staying in a hotel I was going to be the last stop of the night, which would have meant an extra hour and a half on the bus! I asked if I could get off at the Melbourne Central station instead. I feel that those that aren't being dropped at hotels should be allowed to get off first rather than last. But this is pretty much my only criticism of the trip.

  • Amazing highly recommended

  • Very long but great day trip to see some of the most beautiful sites in Victoria. Tour is well organized with plenty of stops along the way. The drivers are wonderful and very knowledgeable.

  • All good even long way and fog at 12 Apostles. Fortunately a fog lifted so we could see the biggest tour attraction.
