Know More about this tour

If you are fond of wines and want to discover one of the most prestigious wine areas of Spain, we invite you to come with us to Ribera del Duero. The excursion departs every day Monday to Saturday from Madrid.

You will be picked up in Madrid at 9am and depart towards Ribera del Duero. The Duero river, also known as the river of wine, is about 2 hours from Madrid and it is the home of tempranillo, the most famous Spanish grape variety (red wines with full body and lots of fruit).
Visit three of their most representative wineries, modern and traditional, and their vineyards. You will do a full visit in one of them, learning about winemaking in Ribera (riverside in spanish), and understanding tempranillo wine from the grape to the bottle. A real immersion in the culture of wine. Also included is a visit to a historic site like one of the castles in the area and a stop at Segovia, having a panoramic tour.

First stop will be one of the most representative wineries in the region, where you will taste the freshness and elegance of their aged wines, feeling the extraordinary complexity of this land.
Two more wineries and cellars will be visited during the day. We always select wineries that are different, mixing tradition and modernity, to get a broad understanding of one of the most famous wine regions in the world. Every stop will bring a surprise, and you will learn about traditional wine making, modern architecture and limited productions that make special wines.

In Ribera del Duero it is impossible to forget the history that surrounds the villages of this “land of castles” so your guide will take you back to the Middle Ages to explore some of their hidden treasures like a castle, a medieval village or an ancient church, changing from wine to culture just for this stop.

There is free time for lunch with different options. You can enjoy a seasonal menu or traditional Castilian cuisine. And you can, of course, try roasted lamb in a wood fired oven, the king of Spanish tables.

And a last stop at the picturesque city of Segovia to have a nice panoramic tour before departing to Madrid.

Finally you will return to Madrid with the memory full of great flavors and wonderful experiences. The duration of the tour is between 10 to 11 hours depending on Madrid traffic.

This tour will bring you an exceptional experience, blending new and old wine making techniques, vineyards growing in extreme weather conditions, and the work of families who have converted this great region into one of the most popular red wine regions in the world. Let us accompany you among landscapes of contrasting colors, wines full of taste and aromas, traditional cuisine and the exceptional heritage which is still preserved in the wine region of Ribera del Duero.

  • The tour was cancelled, because no one else signed up to go on the tour that day. Gourmet Madrid offered us several other options, though. We ended up doing a wine tasting with them at Bar La Malvasia. Jaime led the tasting. He was fun and knowledgeable. We had a wonderful time and we learned a lot about Spanish wine. I do wish we had been able to actually visit the wineries in the Ribera del Duero, but it was a good alternative, and I was pleased that Gourmet Madrid really went out of their way to make sure we had a good time.

  • Excellent and informative tour guided by Enrique. A pleasure to be with, prompt and great personality. The wineries were outstanding as well as the delicious wines. Experience not to be missed!
    Thank you Enrique!

  • This has a potential of very interesting tour. The wineries visited are worthwhile and some of them are truly unique. There is only one problem, our guide was scheduled to take another tour around in Madrid that night. It was his priority to get back to Madrid to make it to the tapas tour that night and little else mattered. This is not necessarily a bad review of that particular guide but rather the system that schedules this way. We were rushed to get going all day, barely had time for lunch and last winery visit was essentially crumpled to nothing. Also, visit to Segovia was just a glance and we were just pressed to get back to the bus. As the result the time spend at some places was not very worthwhile and at some point I felt like I am being pronged like cattle to get back into the bus. I just don't think this is good for anyone including the guide, visitors and tour company. Overall, very mediocre experience because of these issues. Real pity, it could have been a highlight of our time in Madrid.

  • This trip consisted of visiting 3 different wineries, all very interesting. The wine pours were generous, although some of the wines seemed a little young/unbalanced. There was a chance to buy some of the wines, but no hard-core sales occurred. The guides at the wineries were enthusiastic, and eager to share their knowledge. Our tour guide, Enriquez was very informative and passionate about the wines as well. The lunch was great, and a good value for a small price. The most confusing thing was the meeting spot in the morning. The address was very vague, and there was nothing to designate the open area as the meeting spot. Fortunately, the group found each other, as we had asked for directions at many of the store fronts at this street intersection, and not one person was familiar with the tour or company! This needs to be fixed.

  • This was a fantastic wine tour. Our guide was so knowledgeable. We went to 3 wineries and one of them had underground tunnels with wine storage. I would recommend this trip to everyone. My only suggestion would be for the guide who met us in Madrid to carry a sign for the tour. We had a hard time locating him.

  • Very informative guide. Lively experience and small group experience was wonderful. Although we paid for lunch, guide made sure we experienced authentic Castillian cuisine. Although I had a cane and had to walk carefully over uneven surfaces slowly, guide was quite helpful and made sure I was safe and helped me navigate stairs w/o railings. All in all, an excellent tour.

  • The tour was very nice. Worth the time and money.

  • Our tour with Jorge was amazing. Getting to tour modern and older traditional wineries made for a diverse experience and an authentic learning experience. We really enjoyed our lunch with Jorge and the others on the tour and our stop in Segovia was short, but allowed us to see the aqueduct and other sights in town. Jorge is personable and knowledgeable, and we really enjoyed spending the day with him.

  • Traveling from an authentic Spanish wine cellar to a modern day winery, this tour was able to give a complete experience of wine making in Spain. The small group group of 4 allowed for personalization and really getting to know the people who devote their lives to their love, which is of course wine. You could clearly sense the tour guide's passion for wine making and his knowledge base and personal stories only added to our experience. The panoramic tour in Segovia was a beautifully added feature. It is a small town, but rich in history and culture with cobblestone streets and aqueducts. I will remember this day not only for the delicious wine, appetizing food, and beautiful scenery, but for the people that we met and time spent with them. If you don't want to stick out like a sore thumb, don't wear open toed shoes, even if it's hot!! They'll get you for that!
