Returning along False Bay, you’ll see historic Simon’s Town. Flanked by the Cape Point Nature Reserve and pristine beaches, Simons Town boasts the eclectic charm of old-world class fused with contemporary touches that cater to varied preferences.
You fly over this unspoiled gem of the False Bay Coast, where Southern Right whales cavort during the whale season and folks flock for the opportunity to build sandcastles and snorkel along the rocks. Every alternative Sunday, a classic steam train travels from Simon’s Town to Cape Town and stops at Fish Hoek station for those interested in having their picture snapped with the majestic old train.
The False Bay coast is renowned for its impressive beaches and Muizenberg beach is a firm favourite for tourists and locals alike. The colourful changing rooms that line the white sands of the beach have featured on many a postcard and from above, they add colourful bursts of colour to the landscape. The small suburb is densely packed with historical buildings such as the SA Police Museum and Het Posthuys, which date back to mid-1700. Another coastal yet underrated road that winds along Muizenberg Mountain is Boyes Drive, a spectacular route that offers great whale watching lookout points.
Located a mere 20 minutes away from the City Bowl, the affluent suburb of Constantia is known for its secluded, country-like ambiance and the vineyards boast some of the finest examples of Cape Dutch homesteads. Well-known farm estates that can be found in the area include Klein Constantia, Buitenverwachting, Uitsig, Steenberg and Groot Constantia, the estate originally owned by Simon van der Stel. Additionally, the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and the beaches of False Bay are a stone throw away.
