Know More about this tour

After heading to the meeting spot for the 5:30pm departure time, your group will depart on this 4 hour walking tour from the most vibrant and dynamic square in Rome: Campo de Fiori. Here, among bustling cafs and street musicians you will meet your guide. Just in time for the Italian 'aperitivo' you will be tasting a selection of artisanal Italian salamis, so special they have protected geographical indication (PGI). This will be accompanied of course by your first taste on this excursion of the countrys notoriously fine wine.

As you stroll through the city center, your guide will be divulging the strange and wonderful history of the area before you taste your next culinary delight: cheese. The historic shop we will be visiting also contains only PGI protected cheeses of various Italian origins and will be complimented by a carefully selected wine. They will also be providing us with a must try Roman specialty: fried salted cod or baccal fritto.

Immersion into local cuisine will continue with a tasting of two other typically Roman foods: pizza at the slice and suppl. Your guide will be taking you to two eateries that specialize in the production of these scrumptious Italian foods, where these new tastes and aromas will be an unforgettable novelty for your palate.

After a walk to digest these tasty delicacies, you will almost be ready for supper in one of the coziest restaurants in Trastevere. Known for the quality of its food, this quarter is considered to have the best restaurants in Rome. Here, your group will be tasting an exquisite Roman antipasto and two first courses, accompanied by two different Italian wines of protected production and origin. Finally you will finish the tour in Trastevere by trying some delicious locally made Italian ice cream in flavors typical of this famous ice cream shop or gelateria. Your tour will then be concluded around 9:30pm.

By the end of the tour, not only will you feel content and full of excellent food and wine, you will have immersed yourself in Italian cuisine, a fundamental part of life in Rome. You will feel far more a part of the city than you ever would have imagined you could be.

  • My husband and I were fortunate enough to have Marcello as our tour guide. He was an extremely knowledgeable, personable guide who gave us a fantastic overview of Italian cuisine and was also pleasant company and easy to converse with. Before going to Italy we had been unsure if a food tour would be that great or worth our time and money. This tour exceeded and surpassed all expectations and was truly one of the best experiences we had on our entire trip to Italy! Next time we go back this is a tour we are going to take again and I'd recommend it to everyone and have told all our friends and family how amazing the experience was. Our tour began in Campo De' Fiori, where we tasted a huge tray of assorted cheeses and meats. There was one type of salami with liver in it I was wary of trying but Marcello insisted I would like the flavor. I have steered clear of eating anything with organs throughout my life, period! I decided where better to try some salami with liver incorporated in it than Italy? I decided to be brave and took a bite and I will say it was absolutely spectacular! I am so glad I tried everything offered even though I typically would never eat certain foods back at home! While eating this tray, to help wash it down, they provided us with a lovely organic red wine served chilled with such a clean, refreshing flavor. Next we went to a restaurant serving salted cod. I ate mine with lots of salt. The salt made the dish! Also, we drank more wine here and I will tell you there was no shortage of wine on this tour. The drinks were literally as much as you wanted and my husband and I were a bit tipsy at this point. Next we enjoyed some Pizza al' Taglia. The crust had a divine flavor and the sauce was something I was blown away by. I couldn't get past how fresh it tasted and how clean and earthy the tomatoes used in the pizza were. I love tomatoes and these were the best I have ever eaten! After this we took a lovely stroll along the Tiber River which is a gorgeous sight lit up at night! We crossed the Tiber River to walk toward the Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere. We arrived at a fancy restaurant where we were served some of the most fabulous tasting cheeses, breads I have ever eaten. I believe our favorite was the buffalo cheese which was soft and served in a delicious sauce. The atmosphere here and the huge rustic, wooden table we sat around was so great. If our tour would have stopped at this place we would have been very satisfied. At this place we were given a white wine called, KATA, which both of us instantly loved. We bought two bottles to take home with us and also have the information of the restaurant to have more shipped to the States. At some point we stopped at a place to get an incredible street food called Suppli, which were SO GOOD I have decided I must make these back at home in my deep fryer. Our second to last stop was at a sit down restaurant in Trastevere where we ate a few different types of noodle dishes popular in Roma. My favorite dish here was the Pasta Carbonara which contained tender, succulent pig cheek. Our last stop was at a gelateria where we stood in a long line to get some of the creamiest tasting gelato we had on our entire trip. I chose a crema and a fruit flavored gelato which was the perfect combination choice for me to ending this tour. Both my husband and myself had eaten only breakfast on this day thinking we wanted to be hungry for our food tour. Thank goodness we didn't eat a meal close before because the portions of food were so plentiful we couldn't finish everything. We were fine with this because we still enjoyed sampling bites of the foods given to us. I could not give a tour higher praise. We took many tours on this trip and Marcello was the best tour guide of all! Thank you for the best time ever and we can't wait to go with your company soon. I seriously cannot believe there are so few reviews on this particular tour! The time was so delightful I expected there to be hundreds.

  • We had an AMAZING tour with Marcello. There were only a total of 5 people including, the myself and my 2 friends. So needless to say this was extremely private. The tour starts in Campo di Fiori with classic Italian cold cut meats and delish house wine. We then went to a fried codfish spot. I don't eat fish but my friends and the other 2 people on the tour were ranting and raving. Of course we had more wine at this spot as well. Next up was a cheese and wine tasting. The cheeses were AMAZING and we also had the chance to sample the best olive oil we've every had. We each to buy a bottle before we left lol. Next up was a a pizzeria. Then we went to a restaurant where we had a Cacio e pepe, Spagetti Amatriciana and Fried Zucchini Blossoms. Of course we had wine every step of the way. The tour finished with super delish Gelato from Fatamorgana. The gelato was delicious but unfortunately my sister who has a nut allergy had an allergic reaction. There were no nuts in the gelato she chose, but there must have been some cross contamination from the scoopers. So if you have any food allergies, be sure to state this at EVERY place you go to along the tour. All in all, Marcello has a great personality and was very knowledgeable about all of the foods. Honestly, it felt like we were hanging out with a group of friends. This tour was definitely a highlight of our trip and is HIGHLY recommended for a foodie. You get to sample all of the classic Roman dishes within a 4 hour period. Come on a completely empty stomach though, because you'll leave stuffed lol. So glad we had Marcello as our guide!!! Top notch service!!!!

  • It started out a little slow, our original guide was injured in an accident and couldn't make it. But then our luck turned around when we received the best guide I have ever had on a tour or excursion. Our guide Alma was working in the office when they got the call and jumped in to a taxi and met us at the meeting point. She explained what and where we were going to be doing, brief descriptions on each stop and then we were on our way. First, we sampled some outstanding meat products from a local shop paired with a good quality wine. Next after a short walk we were greeted by a shop owner of a small cheese shop who treated us to some of his very delicious treats and of course some more wine. At this time as our group was talking among ourselves we were all hoping the original guide was ok after his accident but were extremely glad that we got Alma as a fill in, she was so much fun. After some fried cod at one location and rice balls at another, plus some more wine of course, we were off to get dinner..... yes I said to diner.... after eating all of that food we are now heading to dinner and I was in heaven. For dinner we experienced fried zucchini flowers with anchovies, a couple different types of pasta and of course.... everyone repeat after me..... MORE WINE! After diner they brought everyone out a digestive after dinner drink and it was outstanding. So you think you are finished??? Nope, not yet there is still desert left to eat after a short stole to a gelato shop we experienced some of the most intense flavors that have ever touched our lips. Finally when everything was finished Alma made sure that everyone had a way back to their hotel, called cabs for those who needed them and made sure that everyone was on there way back before leaving.. Her home was a few metro stops past our hotel so my wife, Alma and I jumped on the bus and took the metro to our station were we started to head to our hotel. While heading to the hotel my wife and were talking about how this was probably on of the best experiences on a tour or with a group that we have ever had, the tour it self was well planned and thought out, the people that we had in the group were so much fun and completely got along but the star of the evening was our hero who stepped in at the last minute to save the day. That hero would be our guide Alma and I would like to take this time thank her for what she did. THANKS ALMA !!!

  • The BEST part of the trip. Our guide was very personable and every restaurant that he took us too was amazing. I made the mistake of eating a slice of pizza BEFORE the tour. I could not eat all the offerings towards the end and I AM a big eater :

  • Amazing variety of food and wine, with information on each. My wallet was stolen by a pickpocket just before this tour. This will be my last time in this city of thieves.

  • Fantastic tour, lots of food and wine, so come hungry. I did not eat before and still was full by the end, could not finish the pasta tastings. The guide was great, very knowledgeable and pointed out interesting historical sites along the way. Highly recommended.

  • Marcello was a very nice, joyful and friendly guide. He made all in our group feel well. We ate us from Campo di fiori to Trastevere and we were really full, almost bursting after four hours. A lot of really good wine too! Highly recommended!

  • This tour was by far the best part of our Rome experience! Alfredo was an amazing guide and the food, wine and walk around that part of Rome was the complete package.

  • Tour was literally 4 hours long!! Started with an amazing Italian wine and cheese tasting followed by street food. Cold cuts and more wine were next and this gave more real Italian flavours! Pizza al forno a legna was incredible to end with pasta and more house wine. Artesan gelato closed the night!!!!

Maria, our guide, was also amazing and charming...she made sure everyone was well taken care of! We also met lovely people. Instructions to get to the meeting point were clear and easy to follow!!

When in Rome, I'd say it 's a must! Will take you thru beautiful areas from Campo di Fiori, Jewish ghetto and Trastevere... a way of peeking into real Italian culture!

  • Easily our favorite tour! We sampled so many foods from some of the top shops. Our guide was phenomenal! So friendly, knowledgeable and funny. We came starving and left not being able to eat another bite.
