Overview

Just 10 km north of Dubrovnik, Zaton Bay is a place of natural beauty and tranquility, free of Dubrovnik's tourist crowds The deep bay offers kayakers natural protection from Dalmatias coastal winds and calm, safe paddling waters, without the busy motorboat traffic around Dubrovnik and Lokrum Island. A paddle around the bay reveals an old stone mill fed by bubbly underground springs, aristocratic villas from Dubrovniks Renaissance, and three small sea side villages. Beyond the bay lies the open sea with unobstructed views of Dubrovnik and the Elafiti Islands. Paddle along towering limestone cliffs that rise abruptly from the sea to a secluded cove off limits to motor boatsthe perfect spot to swim, snorkel, cliff-jump, and relax.

Know More about this tour

Meet at Adriatic Kayak Tours office at 9 am or the morning half-day tour or 3 pm for the afternoon half-day tour for a 12-15 minute drive north to charming Zaton Bay.

After paddling for an hour, arrive at a small fishing village on ipan, where you, your group and professional guide will abandon kayaks for bicycles. ipan has a rich and colorful history dating back to Ragusas 15th century Renaissance. A single 6 km long tarmac road bisects the island, connecting its two small villages.

After a brief on-land safety and instructional demonstration at the Zaton kayak base, and perhaps a quick dip in the sea, your professional guide instructs you in basic paddling technique in double and single proper sit-in kayaks. The 2 km deep bay, surrounded by mountainous terrain, offers protection from coastal winds and calm paddling water. After exploring Zaton Bay by kayak, head out to the open sea. Paddle past caves and geological features sculpted by centuries of exposure to the wind and sea. After 40 minutes of paddling,a break in the cliffs reveals an small, shallow cove with a pebble beach accessible only by kayak. Stretch your legs, swim, snorkeling, jump from into the open sea, or simply relax on the beach before the 40 minute paddle back to the kayak base in Zaton Bay. Return to Dubrovnik by car.
