This 3 hour guided tour of the Colosseum is the ultimate way to visit the symbol of Rome. With multiple start times to choose from throughout the day,you will join a small group (maximum 25 people) and an English-speaking guide in the tour office near the Colosseum. From here, you will head to a special entrance of the Colosseum, reserved only for customers joining this tour. You will skip all the lines and thus maximize your time in Rome. This special reservation will let you enter the amphitheater directly onto the Arena, the very same stage Gladiators used to join the fights!

From this stage you will visit the ring that overlooks the underground areas of the Colosseum. While you take in the amazing view, your guides will share their knowledge about the history of Ancient Rome and of the Colosseum in particular. The guides are all licensed and have a degree either in Art History or Archaeology, and enrich their explanation adding amazing anecdotes about the Colosseum, its spectators, the fights between wild beasts and gladiators, and the lives of the powerful Emperors and politicians of the time.

Your tour of Ancient Rome will continue to the Palatine Hill, one of Rome’s seven hills. Here, emperors and wealthy families used to have their houses built, to enjoy the stunning view over the Roman Forum and Circus Maximum. Your group will then walk down the Palatine Hill and stroll among the ruins of the Roman Forum, an archaeological area that the guide will bring alive sharing more history and anecdotes about Ancient Rome. Our guides use overlay books and 3D pictures to show you how each column, temple and building used to look like at that time. You will understand what those ruins used to represent, linking them to the main characters and events of Ancient Rome’s history.

At the end of the tour, you will return back to the starting point and from there can proceed with the rest of your day.

  • This was an excellent tour and our guide Fee/Fi Felicity was wonderfully knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She tailored the tour to the group and really made ancient Rome come alive.

  • Our knowledgeable guide was terrific. This tour could not have been any better unless a catered lunch was provided. There was not enough time for that. Our group was treated to 3 1/2 hours filled with facts, figures and sights of the Colosseum from all angles. We then went to the Forum, Palative Hill and viewed Circus Maximus. To do this, some walking was required but we were anxious to get to the next station in order to hear and see more.
A visit to Rome is not complete without this tour!

  • It was a wonderful tour, we saw so much, I have to hand it to our guide Denis who is a archaeologist he was able to give so much context, also a nice lesson about Rome.

  • Good tour

  • This trip was booked last minute whilst in Rome and was such good value. Our guide was a lovely young lady who knew so much about the history and architecture and was so knowledgeable, The tour was lengthy and included a lot of walking at the Roman Forum, Colliseum and Palentine Hill but we had refreshment and toilet breaks and found these to be sufficient. Our guide was so enthusiastic and kept the momentum right until the end of the tour. Well done it was well worth the money and we shall book again on our next visit.

  • Enjoyed this tour - our guide was very good and gave lots of information. Would definitely recommend this tour be done in the morning.

  • The Good : our guide, Flavia , was fabulous. She is an art/history major and she was extremely informative. She also used a tablet with illustrations of the Colosseum and the Forum as an aid to help us visualize what the area would have looked like 2000 years ago. Her English was excellent and she was very personable. She allowed time for a short break as there is a lot of walking and climbing, so wear comfortable shoes. This tour lasts 3.5 hours and is money well spent in order to learn the history of these ancient buildings.

The Bad : the tour office is somewhat difficult to find. It's tucked away down a very narrow street/ alley. Since there had been over 5 of rain the previous day, the grounds of the Forum were closed. This was not the fault of the tour operator. When we took issue with this, the manager said the tour would still walk around the Forum and up to Palentine Hill but if we wanted some kind of refund, we would have to go through Viator or reschedule. We couldn't reschedule and the tour was still great. However, prior to leaving the office for the tour, the manager had us sign a document stating that we could not request any type of refund.

I would still highly recommend this tour.

  • Flavia was an exceptional guide. So enthusiastic and knowledgeable.A thoroughly enjoyable 3 hours.

  • There was a mix up with regards to access to the coliseum which meant a long walk in 38 degrees. We gave up and left the tour before the end. Would have been a good tour but for this!!

  • Wow an amazing place and tour. The guide was very informative and really set the scene. The group was small so that helped and the fact that we did not have to queue to get in. As the normal queues were hours long. Direct access onto the Colosseum arena floor was a real treat as we were the only ones there. Well worth the cost.
