Know More about this tour

On this half day tour in Soweto, your guide, who was born and raised in Soweto, will take you past all the hotspots in Soweto. The Soweto tour will take you deep into the township culture, so you can enjoy a personal experience of how vibrant and lively this part of Johannesburg really is.
On our way to Soweto we pass by the National Football Stadium, which hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the World Cup 2010. We enter the Diepkloof area, where we will take a walk past vendors selling just about anything.
In Orlando West we visit Vilakazi Street- drive past the former home of Nelson Mandela and past the home of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. You will have an opportunity to read about the Soweto uprising on 16 June 1976. On that tragic day an innocent little boy called Hector Pieterson gave up his life and kick-started the liberation of South Africa.
During this Soweto tour we will pass by the Mandela House. A visit into the museum is optional.
We continue our Soweto tour driving into one of the shanty towns where you get to interact with some of the locals.
We drive past the Soweto Campus of the Johannesburg University and end our tour with a stop at the largest hospital in the world: Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

The children living here seemed happy and carefree, which brought a semblance of peace to my mind…considering the living conditions.

Really good experience for the entire family as well as those traveling on their own. Khutso did a great job as our guide and deserves kudos for his knowledge and story telling.

What a awesome tour, our tour guide Khutso was so good and his knowledge and passion for the area was unbelievable. The Hector Pieterson Museum was definitely a must see. Going to the shanty town was a eye opener and a reality check. Being a from New Zealand, Khutso also had to bring up the 95 Rugby World Cup ha ha ha. This is a tour I would recommend to anyone.

The guide we had on this tour was amazing, being from Soweto itself gave us a brilliant insight on the tour. Another must do in Jo-burg

  • 22-Oct-2022

Our tour was insightful and educational with sad but rich history. Thabang Happy is a great tour guide. He is confident, kind and knowledgeable. I am grateful we had him as our guide. He answered all our questions and even managed to tease our brains when we got to the FNB stadium. The Hector Pieterson Memorial was the highlight of our tour. I will definitely come back for the museum which was closed as it was Monday. Visiting 8115 Vilakazi Street in Orlando West and getting a chance to dance with the local traditional dancers was very exciting.

The driver/tour guide was very patient warm, informative and showed us a side of South Africa that needed to be seen , lots of history

Our trip through Johannesburg and Soweto was very interesting and emotional. It was a very insightful experience and you learn a lot about the history of the city and especially about Soweto. Our guide was very professional and had a lot of background knowledge. In this tour you can enjoy the environment, away from tourism and get to know the people of Soweto. In addition, we were picked up right in front of our hotel, although this was very far away. This is not something that can be taken for granted and we really appreciate this achievement. We can highly recommend this tour!

Booked the half day Soweto trip at last minute just before I arrived in Jo’berg taking a chance knowing I only had an hour from landing to the trip departing however despite being 2 hours late the amazing guide sunny waited for us and was as happy as his name suggested. Sunny proudly showed us round Soweto explained the history in great detail and made many stops at nelson Mandela street and house took us to the towers the stadium amongst other places he took photos for us and everywhere we stopped off sunny knew someone who stopped and chatted making us feel totally safe. I had been nervous about visiting on arrival into the country as I usually like to get a feel for the place but this company kept us safe and let us go at our own pace and there wasn’t a single question that sunny couldn’t answer. Absolutely 5* amazing informative trip about the struggles and history faced in SA. Well worth the money.

The guide Thabang and getting to meet the locals in the unofficial settlement were my two favorite aspects of the trip! Everyone was so kind, welcoming despite hardships faced, and I never felt unsafe. Would recommend to anyone - do not miss it! Bonus: part of the tour fee goes to a local community that you will get to meet !
