Know More about this tour

Escape from Munich to Herreninsel, a tranquil island in Chiemsee Lake that is home to the stunning Herrenchiemsee Palace. Built in the 19th century by King Ludwig II, this royal landmark sits amid picturesque Bavarian scenery of majestic lakes and mountains. With elegant gardens, walkways and ornate interiors of gold, glass and porcelain, this palace reflects pure opulence. Some even say that many of its features, like the vast Hall of Mirrors, surpass that of the Palace of Versailles.

The grand architecture of Herrenchiemsee was a pinnacle of King Ludwig's mad ambitions of building fairy-tale palaces in Bavaria. His eccentric and troubled personality is exemplified through the celebrated elevated dining table, which could be lowered through the floor to the kitchen below so that the reclusive king did not have to see his servants. The palace is currently running a Bavarian State Exhibition, offering a behind-the-scenes insight into King Ludwig II's time there. Entrance fees to the palace and the exhibition are not included. A supplement of eight euros (per person) is payable direct. Not included in the price and payable direct is also the cost of the boat journey, approx. eleven euros (per person).

This train and boat trip from Munich includes another Chiemsee island destination the petite island of Fraueninsel, with origins dating back 1,300 years. You will have free time to explore both islands and indulge in their rich history.

On this complete day trip by train, you will have one of the most unique and breathtaking experiences in Germany.

This tour was definitely worth the visit! Our guide Stephanie was excellent and made sure we were where we needed to be on time. She helped us navigate the transportation and also gave us lots of good historical information about the palace and King Ludwig. For anyone who has visited Versailles or is interested in palaces, I recommend visiting this palace!

It was a terrific day, visiting both Herrenchiemsee Palace and Fraueninsel Island. The palace was amazingly beautiful outside and in, a must-see if visiting Munich. And Fraueninsel Island was such a neat/quaint little village to visit, almost as if it has been forgotten in time. Michelle our guide was very knowledgeable and very cognizant/ organized, she took time to get to know the people in the group.

We enjoyed meeting people on our tour from around the world as well as from home! The small train and boat ride to the islands made this a unique experience. We really enjoyed visiting the Women’s Island as well as Herrenchiemsee Palace. It was a lovely day, and the scenery was beautiful! Our guide, Stephanie was very personable and made everyone feel welcome.

We went on this tour feeling we didn't have to worry about time management. Our guide was wonderful Susanne. The company that was extremely unorganized. Gave an address but not there name that was on the building. Said in the instructions to look for lots of windows.??? There was lots of people everyone wasn't sure where to go. Then needed sandwich signs to display each tour. Having a back issue we had to stand for 2 hours waiting for a train. I could have done this tour on my own if l wanted to be frustrated. We ended up losing our guild and there was another family who was lost with us. The train should be scheduled to people on tour. Not just being spread out all over. I would suggest to have colored stickers on so they guild could at least recognize her tour. We also where told we had an hour on the female island. It was 30 mins and didn't have anytime to go to the gift shop just the church. The palace itself was beautiful and so was the second island.

We could have done this trip ourselves using our 9 euro travel card and just getting off the train and paying the entrance fees No value for money
