Know More about this tour

On the Historic Salem Common Tour you will learn about the plan engineered by the son of America's first millionaire to dig 3 miles of tunnels which, many of the most influential people who shaped our country, could use to avoid Jefferson's custom duties. We'll also tell of the carefully planned scheme to hide the dirt from digging the tunnels as a beautification program to fill in the ponds, level the hills, and grade the park carried out by the descendants of America's first National Guard unit. Open two tunnel entrances, if you dare!

Hear of a plan that incorporated 158 people into the Salem Common Improvement Fund which would include 2 Secretaries of State, a Secretary of the Navy, a Superior Court Justice, several Congressmen, a handful of Senators, drug lords, and half the custom agency.

You will learn about the architectural style developed by Charles Bulfinch who engineered the tunnels in Washington D.C. created to connect the tunnels through the fireplace arches in their basements. Then hear about the man who was brazened by getting away with the murder of his uncle...who then went on to plan the murder of President Harrison and his accessories...who went on to assassinate two more presidents in attempts to create what, today, we call the Federal Reserve. And in true Salem style, there will be several ghost stories along the way.
