Know More about this tour

Meet your guide in central London, and then set off on a walking tour around Westminster, the central London borough and home of British espionage that became the target of heavy bombing during WWII. Learn about the government staff who sheltered from the bombs in bunkers beneath Westminsters streets, and hear tales of Churchill and his charismatic leadership during the Blitz and beyond. Your guide has intimate knowledge of the London area as well as its WWII history.

After taking in classic London landmarks such as 10 Downing Street, the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey, stop at the Cenotaph a famous British war memorial to pay your respects to the fallen, and then pose for photos by the Statue of Winston Churchill.

Next, bid your guide a fond farewell and head underground to independently explore the wartime bunker of the Churchill War Rooms, a hastily created office that served as the British war cabinets hub throughout the duration of WWII.

Your first stop inside the site is Churchill Museum, an interactive exhibition space dedicated to the wartime leader. A piece of living history, the museum is home to an array of Churchill artifacts such as cigars and outfits as well as audio recordings of his inspiring wartime speeches. Hear little-known facts and anecdotes about the leaders private and public life, and learn of the special relationship he cultivated with President Roosevelt a relationship that changed the course of history.

After visiting the museum, plug into your included audio guide and set off to discover the rest of the war rooms. The underground maze of bunkers and corridors became the home of secret government staff during the war, and many staff didnt even see natural light from day to day. Learn about their isolation beneath ground, and hear of the top-secret conversations and day-to-day domestic crises that took place.

How long you spend inside the Churchill War Rooms is up to you, but many visitors find 1.5 hours to be sufficient.

  • Tour guide was great. Churchill war rooms were good but we had to wait in line for about 35 minutes to get in which shouldn’t have happened.

  • i liked our tour guide and enjoyed learning more about Westminster. the war rooms were VERY crowded, after waiting quite some time to get in, and it made it harder to enjoy our time there.

  • This was the perfect tour to see the sights of Westminster. Danielle, our guide, was fabulous! Her knowledge and enthusiasm were amazing! We really got to see and learn about Westminster Abbey, Parliament and Big Ben to name a few of the many places seen.
Churchill War Rooms are a must see....great way to see them as you can take the audio guided tour on your own at your pace.
    Highly Recommended!!

  • Very interesting tour, the guide gave good explanations and stories. The Churchill war rooms was great, it's a very unexpected place.
However, the walking guided tour doesn't talk much about WWII talks, and more about the British institutions

  • The historic walking tour of London including the Churchill War Rooms was wonderful. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining.

  • A good first tour of London. Had a well informed guide. Big Ben was not chiming while there due to repairs but still a great site.

  • Excellent walking tour! Learned so much about Churchill and the surrounding area. Highly recommneded!

  • Thoroughly enjoyed this very informative tour with our very knowledgable and obviously passionate guide.

  • Our tour guide, Andy, was excellent. He was most engaging, knowledgable and his deep interest in the life and times of Winston Churchill was very evident. I don't think our visit at the end of the tour would have been as meaningful if it wasn't for Andy and the pre tour of Westminster. Many thanks, Dolores

  • We did this tour in the afternoon. We had no trouble finding the location, and although it appears there were several tour groups forming up we found our guide with no trouble.

There were about 15 people in our tour group. The tour uses small transmitters with earphones so even if you are some distance away from the guide, you can still hear everything he says, even with the noise of London traffic. The actual guided portion of the tour was a little less than 2 hours, at which point you are brought in to the Churchill Museum / War Rooms to continue on your own.

Our guide, Andy, was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. He obviously has a love for the subject and was able to provide much greater insight than if we had just done this on our own.

We loved this tour and would highly recommend it. The actual walking part is probably less than 2 miles at a very slow pace. I would recommend an umbrella, since even though the forecast said no chance of rain, we did experience several heavy downpours as Andy said, welcome to London.

If you have any interest in Churchill and London, especially during WWII, be prepared to spend at least 1-2 hours inside the museum after the tour. The museum is fascinating, and the war rooms are in virtually the same condition as they were in 1945. The museum tour is self-guided with personal audio receivers so you can go at your own pace. The entry cost for the museum is included in the tour, and you get to bypass the entry line which was fairly long.

    Overall an excellent experience.
