Know More about this tour

Meet your guide in central London, and then set off on a walking tour around Westminster, the central London borough and home of British espionage that became the target of heavy bombing during WWII. Learn about the government staff who sheltered from the bombs in bunkers beneath Westminster’s streets, and hear tales of Churchill and his charismatic leadership during the Blitz and beyond. Your guide has intimate knowledge of the London area as well as its WWII history.

After taking in classic London landmarks such as 10 Downing Street, the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey, stop at the Cenotaph — a famous British war memorial — to pay your respects to the fallen, and then pose for photos by the Statue of Winston Churchill.

Next, bid your guide a fond farewell and head underground to independently explore the wartime bunker of the Churchill War Rooms, a hastily created office that served as the British war cabinet’s hub throughout the duration of WWII.

Your first stop inside the site is Churchill Museum, an interactive exhibition space dedicated to the wartime leader. A piece of living history, the museum is home to an array of Churchill artifacts such as cigars and outfits as well as audio recordings of his inspiring wartime speeches. Hear little-known facts and anecdotes about the leader’s private and public life, and learn of the ‘special relationship’ he cultivated with President Roosevelt — a relationship that changed the course of history.

After visiting the museum, plug into your included audio guide and set off to discover the rest of the war rooms. The underground maze of bunkers and corridors became the home of secret government staff during the war, and many staff didn’t even see natural light from day to day. Learn about their isolation beneath ground, and hear of the top-secret conversations and day-to-day domestic crises that took place.

How long you spend inside the Churchill War Rooms is up to you, but many visitors find 1.5 hours to be sufficient.

  • Absolutely amazing afternoon, informative and skip the line war rooms was worth the extra money . A must do!

  • Our historical walking tour of Westminster and visit to the Churchill War Rooms was amazing. Our knowledgeable and entertaining guide shared stories that made historical events come to life. We learned a great deal about England's parliament, and how government has changed throughout the various ruling powers. The Churchill War Rooms provided us with an in depth picture of Churchill's impact during World War II. One can easily spend several days in the museum. There is so much to experience. this adventure is a must for anyone interested in history, and will definitely embellish their experience in London.

  • We found it almost impossible to locate the tour guide so we were unable to get the tour we paid for. Directions to locate the guide were vague enough that we were forced to look through huge crowds for someone we were told later would be holding a little blue flag. The Westminster Abbey area is congested even on a good day so the local tour provider referenced on the voucher was almost impossible to find. We ended up paying for an additional tour through the Abbey and never even got to the War Rooms because we were forced to waste so much time tracking down the tour--which we were unable to do. This Viator experience was awful but we did another in Vienna that was excellent. Go figure.

  • So glad we booked the walking tour before the War Room visit. Our guide, Nathan, was terrific! He was knowledgeable and funny. The War Rooms were interesting, but we didn't have a lot of time because we took the afternoon tour. The Churchill museum was not laid out in a very user-friendly way. However, it was fascinating.

  • Very well done tour. The guide was excellent and everything well organized. Worth every penny.

  • This was very good but understand that when they say Westminster, they mean the section of London, not Westminster Abbey. I thought the tour was for Westminster Abbey and the Churchill War Rooms so was a tad disappointed. The war rooms are a must see!

  • Interesting but be forewarned that the Churchill Museum is small and becomes crowded. Amber was excellent.

  • If you're interested in WWII history and you're new to London then I recommend this tour, it's very informative and a nice walk with a medium sized group. Once at the War Rooms it's a self guided tour.

  • What a wet and rainy day it was but the guide was fantastic definitely a good way to find out the history you are veiwing. The Churchill War rooms are well worth a look.

  • Best tour we had while there. The Churchill War Room is amazing be sure to have lots of time at the end of the tour to take it in.
