Know More about this tour

Start your Rome afternoon tour with a hotel pickup, or alternatively, meet your guide in town -- near Termini Station. Head to Piazza venezia by air-conditioned coach and begin your afternoon of Imperial Rome sightseeing with a walk around to soak up the sights. As you pass through the piazza, marvel at the sight of magnificent Il Vittoriano a dazzling white marble palace that dominates the square and can be seen from just about every angle of Rome.

Stroll to Capitoline hill for a walk around Piazza del campidoglio -- the beautiful 16th-century square designed by the Renaissance maestro Michelangelo. Soak up views of the Roman forum that sits below it, and envisage life during the days when Rome was founded, around 500 BC.

Return to your coach and ride through Romes downtown streets, passing pretty Aventine hill and Circus maximus, where chariot races were held during the times of Imperial Rome. Learn about the venue itself, and hear how it was once large enough to seat a quarter of Romes population!

Continue to the Church of St Peter in Chains (Basilica di San pietro in vincoli), and head inside for a look around this fascinating 5th-century gem. As its name suggests, the churchs main attraction is the chains that bound St Peter when he was imprisoned in Romes Mamertine prison. After a brief spell in the ancient city of Constantinople, the chains were returned to Rome in two pieces, yet were said to have miraculously joined together when they reached the churchs altar.

Equally intriguing is the churchs Tomb of Pope Julius II, a lavish marble vault designed and sculpted by Michelangelo. His iconic Moses sculpture takes center stage on the faade of the tomb, and as you gaze up at it in awe, your guide will talk your through its defining features.

Leave the Church of St Peter in Chains and continue your tour, by coach, to the world-famous Colosseum. Skip past the long entrance lines with your priority-access ticket and head straight inside to see where Romes brutal gladiatorial games once took place. Walk around the first tier with your guide, seeing where the citys different social classes once sat, and looking into the arena to see where the battles were fought.

Your tour then finishes outside the Colosseum in the late afternoon.

Tour was fairly good and guide was knowledgeable. But was hard for older people to climb stairs and walk that fast. Guide needed to be more aware of peoples needs and stop more often to check everyone was there. We took a Vatican Tour and didn't have that problem.

This was an enoyable tour. we had a great guide whose name unfortunately I don't recall! -- a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
There was considerable walking at each of the three stops, however especially Capitoline Hill, which included quite a few steps to reach the top. Also, it seemed we took a round-about way of entering the Colosseum, I recall it being much easier when I visited the Colosseum a couple of years ago. The coach was parked quite a ways from the Colosseum our last stop, so there was considerable walking back to the coach. Wear sneakers, and be prepared for a lot of exercise!

This was a great tour that focused on the Forum, the Colosseum and St. Pietro in Vincoli (St. Peter in Chains). It combined bus and walking, so was nicely balanced. What made it really great was our guide, Susana - she is of Chinese origin, a native of Peru, but a long-time resident of Rome. She was interesting, passionate about the city, and best of all, very funny. She really knows her Roman history and made it interesting and enjoyable for all. She even managed to herd us nicely through big crowds at the Colosseum. The Michelangelo Moses in the church is really amazing. Do be aware that Rome gets hot in the Summer, even in June, and there is a bit of walking and stair climbing in the Colosseum.

Very hot and very crowded. Guide was knowledgeable and we had headsets so were could hear her. The crowds were the problem. Hard to get past people to see things or take pictures. Maybe a morning tour would have been better.

This tour was very informative and the guide was very knowledgeable. My only complaint is that the tour was in 3 languages. I thought that this made the tour longer than it had to be. Seeing the colosseum and the other stops on the tour made it a very good option if you want to see the most historical sites in the city.

We liked this one because they picked us up at our hotel which was helpful, since we'd spent the morning on a tour of the Vatican. We probably would not have done two tours in one day, but this tour did give us an excellent overview of Ancient Rome.

This informative tour was taken on September 18, 2017 at 2:30 p.m.. Riccardo, our tour guide, told us very interesting stories, particularly about Colosseum. I highly recommend this tour.

Crazy driver who arrived early and who was angry we were not in foyer waiting. Dangerous drive to two other hotels to collect more customers who were also abused and more frantic, dangerous driving to bus pick-up. Terrible guide - spent most of tour on mobile. No information as to return journey until end of tour. After discussion, bus dropped us off close to our hotel.
