Overview
Visit the highest volcano in Costa Rica, enjoy of an easy hike to the top of the volcano where you will be able to admire both craters and its moon type surface. Thetour includesround-trip transportation with a tour guide and admission ticket to the national park.Itinerary:
The trip begins by ascending the breathtaking summit of the Irazu Volcano, passing all types and forms of vegetation, from coffee plantations, to ferns, depending on the elevation. The trip leads up to a spectacular view of the massive crater which is home to a lagoon with a mystical green hue surrounded by jagged rocks. It should be mentioned, that on a clear day you can actually see both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans! After an exciting tour of the volcano, we will descend to the historical city of Cartago. Here will visit the mysterious ruins of the old Parish and take in the beautiful Basilica of our Virgin of Los Angeles (Virgen de los Angeles) with rich displays of carvings, statues and other art.

Fantastic experience! Christopher was a great driver. Daniel was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guide. They provided a welcoming & thorough experience filled with history of San José & the volcanoes themselves. They even took photos! And the experience of walking around near a volcano can’t be beat!

It IS a long drive to get to the top of an 11,000 ft volcano. Fact. This is not Disney. But an interested traveller gets to see stunning landscapes and learns about the farming communities and their crops en route. The changing cloud formations going up the slope vs the return trip were vey noticeable. Our guide was very well informed and chatted the entire time. Kudos to him. Our bus was air conditioned with good visibility out the windows. The highlight was going off track to the Park entrance at very top of the volcano crater, climbing up to the lookout tower and enjoying an other-worldly experience. We could see the clouds advancing on the crater, which by afternoon would envelop the peak. This is a visit for mornings before the clouds descend. Next we went to the lower level where we had ample time to walk across the crater and explore the surface first hand. Like a lunar landscape. It's a long drive but for curious minds, well worth it.

La nature décide tout….c'est la 2e fois que je tente d'aller "VOIR" ce volcan et ce fut encore une déception...blanc partout. Nous étions dans le nuage, impossible de voir à plus de 10 mètres devant. Et c'est très souvent comme ça selon le guide qui nous accompagnait. Même tôt le matin, les chances sont mince de voir autre chose que la clôture! Nous avons attendu que le nuage parte, en vain. Et le froid et l'eau qui s'est infiltré partout :( Je ne tenterai pas une 3e fois, c'est certain.
