Visit the highest volcano in the country with 3432 meters high above sea level. Then, visit the city of Cartago, the former capital of Costa Rica where a stop is made at the Basilica of the Virgin of the Angels, a place of pilgrimage for many faithful. Then, explore the Lankester Botanical Garden, created for the protection of more than 800 species of orchids. Continue to the scenic Orosi Valley, one of the important settlements during the colonial era. You will visit its colonial church, followed by a delicious traditional lunch in the area.

Know More about this tour

The tour will begin with us trekking south along the Panamerican Highway until we reach the base of the behemoth Iztaru (a name of an indigenous village that was situated on the flanks of the volcano, and a likely candidate as a possible origin for the current name of the Irazu Volcano). The winding road traverses fertile lands in which all types and forms of vegetation are cultivated, all the while affording us a spectacular panoramic view of the surrounding hills and valleys. And, at the very top of the summit, on a clear day, one can be privy to an unforgettable birds eye view of both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
we will stop at the Lankester Gardens, a University of Costa Rica Center for investigation that protects more than 800 species of orchids, bromeliads and countless species of other plants.
Valley of Orosi, an area that overflows with unparallel beauty. We will be able to visit one of the few remaining colonial churches and we will stop to enjoy a scrumptious typical lunch at one of the local restaurants.

It was well organized. The guide spoke English and was telling us a bit about the country, culture and nature. At the different sites he always gave us like a small introduction and then let us walk around on our own. If we had any questions we could ask him when being back at the bus. Along the fascinating volcano and Lancester Botanical Gardens and the beautiful Orosi valley we also stopped at some nice viewpoints. And the food in the restaurant was delicious.

The experience was great, the gardens were gorgeous and unbelievable to the eyes,as well as the volcano. Our tourist guide explain to us a lot of things about the country and were they came from, like old bills, national symbols... After a long day with my friends and teachers,I enjoyed everything pretty much.

Our flight got canceled so we were stuck in the US. That‘s why we couldn‘t participate. When we asked for a refund they didn‘t even give us half od the costs back. Not cooperative at all! Even after we explained to them our side of the story.

Esa excursión no vale 113 euros.

This tour is sadly not as interesting as it seems, so we were a bit disappointed. Lunch was average and not as tasty as other local restaurants we tried on different tours. Antonio, however, is a nice, knowledgeable guide and careful driver. We enjoyed his company, although he is a bit slow paced and old fashioned for young, energetic people like us. We feel like he would be a better match for people aged 50+, who enjoy to take it slow and not walk too much. Overall, we feel this tour is overpriced for what it offers.

Si bien ya hace unos años que estuve la experiencia de ver un volcán y sus alrededores es única, para llegar hay que recorrer unos caminos de piedra suelta y el paisaje es espectacular, se puede ver el lago que se formó en el interior, un paseo hermoso
