Know More about this tour

Meet your guide in the Karaky neighborhood on Istanbuls European side. One of the citys oldest districts, the area bursts with old-school eateries and food outlets.
Pass tempting baklava shops and cafes and head inside a restaurant for a delicious kahvalti (Turkish breakfast). Savor delights such as kaymak (clotted cream made from buffalo milk), menemen (scrambled eggs with tomato and peppers), and sucuk (spicy sausage), as your guide explains how theyre prepared.
Then, catch the ferry across the Bosphorus to Kadky. This bustling Asian-side district is an up-and-coming area with cobbled lanes, traditional taverns and lively markets. Walk along streets filled with cafes and tea salons, and listen as your guide tells you about the district's ancient roots as Chalcedon, a Greek colony established in the 7th century BC, and offers interesting snippets about its colorful food scene.
At the fish market (Balik Pazari), browse the stalls selling fresh fish, mezes and deli-style goodies, and perhaps sample some delicacies such as olives and grilled fish. Then, call at different eateries and shops to try some mouth-watering, classic baklava or other desserts all proof of the Turks sweet tooth!
Toward lunchtime, visit one of Kadkys best-loved restaurants, iya Sofras, whose chefs recreate dishes from around Turkey. Dig into delectable specialities such as ezogelin (red lentil soup), gve (oven-baked meat and vegetable stew), pirzola (lamb chops) and katmer (flaky pastry filled with pistachio nuts), and other foods inspired by traditional regional recipes. Then, finish at an authentic coffee house with a cup of classic, strong Turkish coffee.
Afterward, catch the ferry back to Karaky, where your tour ends.

  • I didn't feel the trip was value for money. It was very rushed and somewhat awkward. I didn't taste any food that was not available on the average hotel buffet or at any other restaurant in Turkey. For the price you pay for the trip you might as well treat yourself to some fine dining and actually get to experience something out of the ordinary instead of the run of the mill fare available on the tour. Although the food we ate was of a good quality, I was hoping to discover something different that would justify paying a guide for. I also didn't think the guide was very informed.

  • We would happily recommend this tour. We had a fabulous day trying different Turkish foods as well as gaining an insight into Turkish culture and history.
Our guides met us as planned at an amazing foodstore/cafe where we had a typical Turkish breakfast. The rest of the day was spent at a leisurely pace mainly on the Kadakoy side we took a ferry across wandering through the market area trying different foods along the way. My favourite was a store that sold mussels done two ways, lightly battered and fried, and also stuffed, yum! By lunchtime we had arrived at Ciya Sofressi, a restaurant written up in foodie magazines around the world. Already fairly full by this time we couldn't do it justice but did enjoy the very tasty kebabs. As there were only two of us on the tour with our guides we felt it might not be relaxing, but by the end of the day we felt that we had made new friends. A big thank you to Bulut and Mimet for a wonderful day!

  • Wife and I really liked this tour as it enabled us to see the kadikoy side which was so much more enjoyable because of it's food, people and general chilled out vibe. Totally recommend it.

  • Great tour! Yaprak was an excellent tour guide...we were her only group, so we got a personal tour guide :-) She made sure we tasted and saw all there was in regards to the tastes of the locals. The breakfast was awesome - our favorite was the clotted cream with honey to spread over bread - yumm!

  • This is one of the highlights of my trips to Istanbul! I'm a foodie so I thoroughly enjoyed all the tastings. The restaurant we visited for lunch had actually been recommended by a Turkish friend prior to my trip. She said it was a must visit and I agree. Very authentic and tasty. Also, the baklava was the best I've ever tasted in my life! The tour guide was also very knowledgable and friendly. I cannot say enough good things about this tour. If you are a foodie this tour is for you! I will say that the tour seems a bit pricey, because the tastings don't cost very much, but I enjoyed the tour so much that I didn't mind the price.
