Know More about this tour

Taking off from Geraldton, you will fly direct to Port Gregory - the historic fishing village which back in the 1850's was once was a busy port for the export of lead and the site of a whaling station. You will see the Hutt Lagoon or the "pink lake" which produces beta carotene, a lucrative aquaculture crop estimated to be worth more than $50-million a year worldwide.

Following the coastline you will fly past the spectacular coastal cliffs south of Kalbarri, the mouth of the Murchison River and the town of Kalbarri, following the River to Murchison House Station, and then direct to the Loop and the Z Bend gorges of the Murchison River. Follow the River south until it turns to the east towards its source many miles to the north east.

Your pilot will then take you to the Abrolhos Islands where you will commence the ground portion of your tour. The beautiful aerial scenic flight includes overflying the fascinating islands in the Pelsaert Group, the Easter Group and the Wallabi Group. You will see beautiful coral, marine life and fishermen's camps and pearl farms, and the historical Weibbe Hayes' Fort - which is the first European building on Australian soil - before landing at East Wallabi Island. Walk down to the beautiful Turtle Bay and enjoy morning tea, go snorkeling over the stunning coral in Turtle Bay, have lunch, and then enjoy a guided nature walk around the Island, which includes bird watching and wallabi spotting.

The return flight takes you over Long Island, Beacon Island and the Batavia Wreck Site before landing back in Geraldton at about 3:15pm.

It was a fabulous day. The flights both to and from the island were spectacular and our pilot, Alex, had lots of knowledge about each point of interest. I particularly enjoyed the flight over the Abrolhos Islands…. The view was beautiful while we heard the chilling story of the Batavia survivors. The whales were plentiful and delighted us with their antics as we enjoyed a lovely morning tea.I highly recommend this tour!

Flew with pilot Jed and Shine Aviation. This was an amazing and very special experience to see all the wonderful sights of this region from the air. Jed was very knowledgeable having grown up here. He was so calm and easy going and had a great sense of humour. Landing on the Abrolhos was so very beautiful and even if you don’t snorkel exploring the island is amazing - we did both. This is a once in a lifetime so if you can, do it!

A visit to the Abrolhos Islands was one of the highlights of our trip to Geraldton. Having visited the Geraldton Museum, the story of the shipwreck of the Batavia and the survivors took on more meaning with this air tour of the islands. The time spent on East Wallabi Island was an experience in itself. After enjoying a morning tea, our pilot guide took us for a walk to explore some of the wildlife and natural beauty of this archipelago. We had time to further explore and enjoy at our leisure, before regrouping for a picnic lunch on the beach. From the Abrolhos we flew back to the mainland and enjoyed Pink Lake as well as the Kalbarri Gorges. Strongly recommended.

After having heard about the beauty of the Abrolhos Islands from so many friends over the years, we decided we wanted to visit them on our way through to Shark Bay last week, so we booked the Abrolhos Islands Scenic Flight & Tour (which lands at East Wallabi Island for a picnic & snorkel). Unfortunately it had been raining for several hours overnight & the landing strip on the Island was not safe for landing. Wendy rang me in the morning to see if we would like to reschedule the tour but as we had a holiday schedule to stick to, we decided to keep with our tour that day and add a flight over Kalbarri to the flight plan instead. Probably just as well because the snorkelling would have been a chilly exercise this time of year particularly given the recent cold snap affecting the state! What an amazing way to see this beautiful part of the world. The Abrolhos a Islands are a spectacular group of interesting islands with an even more interesting history. The shapes, colours & pockets of human habitation make this region fabulous viewing from the air, and certainly a much quicker than taking a boat charter out to view! And the change of plan to go see Kalbarri was definitely worth it! We flew past the amazing and incredible Pink Lake, Kalbarri cliffs, then landed at Kalbarri for morning tea, then flew back to Geraldton via the Kalbarri Gorges, and then ate our delicious packed picnic (catering well for my gluten free diet) back at the departure lounge on our arrival back in Geraldton. Thank you so much to our super pilot Gus - he gave us a great running commentary, kept us in comfy minimal-turbulence altitude throughout the flight - we knew we were in safe & skilled hands! We look forward to coming back again in summer to combine this tour with the usual scheduled picnic & snorkel!
