Glendalough

Glendalough - one of the most beautiful visitor sights in all of Ireland, is also known for the Braveheart wedding scenes. It's renowned for its magnificent scenery and rich and varied heritage in terms of history and archaeology. You will have time to explore the ruined monastic city famed for St. Kevin's Cross and its round tower dating back to 10th century. We take time to take a leisurely stroll along the river banks through the woods to the magnificent lakes, waterfalls and babbling brooks. Be sure to bring your camera! Hollywood Blockbusters 'PS I Love You' and 'Braveheart'

If you're a fan of the Hollywood Blockbusters 'PS, I Love You' and 'Braveheart' then you will now officially be on the set! You'll understand why Mel Gibson (an Irish passport holder) chose the Wicklow mountains to be the Highlands of Scotland, and Glendalough to be the spot for the wedding scene. And then of course there are all the romantic scenes from 'PS I Love You', this is where Hilary Swank met Gerard Butler for the first time so who knows you you might meet ;)

Wicklow Mountains

We travel over the Wicklow Gap, which takes us way up into the Wicklow Mountains. This route allows spectacular panoramic views of the landscape, with amazing scenery stretching as far as the eye can see. We view traditional Irish bogs which provide the Irish householder with the source of energy that fuels our fires and provides power for many uses. Through the Wicklow Gap we also pass Turlogh waterfall, one of Ireland's most dramatic waterfalls and highest reservoir.

Kilkenny

Arrive in Kilkenny, once the medieval capital of Ireland back in the 11th century. Situated on the banks of the river Nore, enjoy the picturesque windy and cobblestone streets. Explore the gardens of the famed Norman Castle dating back to the 1100s. Consider going inside and taking a tour of its palatial interior for a small optional fee. You have plenty of time to wander the streets and visit the Black Abbey or possibly see the Cathedral of Saint Canice with its magnificent round tower. • This tour was a great value for what you got. The tour guide/driver was knowledgeable and funny and could really maneuver that bus around those thin winding roads. Side note to that...if you tend to get carsick you are best off sitting at the front of the bus, these roads are bumpy and winding! Glendalough was gorgeous and the muffins in the little hotel restaurant there were fabulous. Kilkenny was very enjoyable. We chose to use our time there touring Kilkenny Castle. We had enough time to go in a few shops and stop for lunch. I would have enjoyed more time in this medieval town. Overall I highly recommend this tour. I also recommend starting the tour in the morning at the first meeting spot as the bus tends to fill up and it may be difficult to sit by family or friends if you join at the second or third location.

  • Would definitely recommend this tour! We absolutely loved Kilkenny and the Wicklow mountains were so beautiful!

  • Kilkenny is a fabulous medieval town with lots of things to see.

  • Our guide Bailey was great! Funny and knowledgeable. Lovely drive up through Wicklow Mountains. Stopped at Glendalough. Walked to lower and upper lakes for photos and viewed Round Towers and monastic site. If you want to reach the upper lake, be warned it is about a 3.4km round trip walk so keep up a steady pace and take your pics of the monastic site on the way back. Alternatively, just walk to lower lake the first lake then back to monastic site. Won't be missing out on much.
Kilkenny was great. Enough time for a walk around, quick lunch and tour of Kilkenny castle and grounds.

  • Great and affordable tour. Amazing day to be out in the Irish country side! The cemetery and monastic site at Glendalough was really cool. Wicklow had amazing views and scenery. Kilkenny was awesome great town! Highly recommend this tour.

  • This was a wonderful trip...Our guide was great...We throughly enjoyed our many stops and the beautiful country, Would highly recommend

  • What a beautiful scenic drive. The tour was very informative.

  • Driver was somewhat rude and dropped us off without warning and rushed us off the bus .. didn't see much of anything

  • Most beautiful scenery in all of Ireland! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because our tour was with Paddywagons. Mostly kids staying in Hostiles and our bus driver flirted with the girls. His language also left something to be desired considering there was 2 young children on the tour. I believe his name was Gavin...would not book with this company again

  • Weather was rainy and very windy which spoilt the day a bit as the views would off been spectacular. Paddy Wagon the tour operators where very efficient and Tom our driver was great he was very informative and jolly with it.
