Overview

Travel into the heart of Australia on a Kings Canyon day trip from Ayers Rock (Uluru). Your journey takes you to a classic outback cattle station at Kings Creek Station and reveals the amazing landscape of Kings Canyon. For tremendous views over the immense chasm, explore the canyons steep cliffs on the Rim Walk or follow an easier route along the canyons floor on the Creek Bed Walk.

Know More about this tour

After an early morning pickup from your Ayers Rock Resort hotel, watch as the desert comes to life on your journey across the desert to Kings Creek Station. Along the way, you might see kangaroos, camels, wild horses and dingoes.

The two-hour trip brings you to the enormous Kings Creek cattle and camel station, established in 1981 and covering 1,115 square miles (1,800 square kilometers). Experience daily life in the outback cattle station, relax with breakfast and coffee in the station cafe (own expense) or take a camel ride with the station hands (optional).

Your tour continues with a 30-minute trip to Watarrka National Park, and the amazing sight of Kings Canyon. Listen to your expert guide's commentary, and hear how the red sandstone gorge is sacred to the local Ulpinyali and Lilla people.

To explore the canyon more closely, choose between the 3.5-mile (6-kilometer) Rim Walk or the easier mile-long (2-kilometer) Creek Bed Walk.

The three-hour Rim Walk takes you up a 330-foot (100-meter) cliff face and along the canyon's sandstone edge, revealing magnificent views over the valley's sheer walls. Follow a steep, rocky trail into the chasm to reach the oasis known as the Garden of Eden, tucked between the sandstone cliffs. The natural spring is surrounded by a unique landscape of gum trees, palms and ferns.

If you choose the more relaxing Creek Bed Walk, your leisurely stroll follows the rocky creek bed to a viewpoint of the canyon's impressive cliffs, and explores the rock-strewn valley floor.

Leaving the canyon, travel to Kings Canyon Resort. Enjoy lunch (own expense), then relax in the afternoon on the return trip to Ayers Rock Resort or Alice Springs.

Fantastic day trip. Kings Canyon is amazing and worth the drive and early start for this tour. The guides were fantastic, they were very knowledgeable of the area and shared lots of interesting stories & facts during the trip. There are 2 options for the hike on the tour, we did the Rim walk which was incredible. It has some steep steps & hills but the pace is very slow, making it not too strenuous. Highly recommend this tour. We are a family with 2 teenagers aged 13 and 15, they both loved the tour. Definitely a highlight of our trip to Uluru.

All our tour guide team members are knowledgeable and responsible. It will be the perfect if I the trip could include a sunset or sunrise .

I was asked to wait in the hotel lobby 5 minutes before 4:15 am at the hotel lobby. I was in the hotel lobby just after 4:00am waiting for the bus tour, but 35 minutes I did not see the bus tour. When I checked with the hotel concierge, I was told that the bus left early. I did not get any courtesy call from the tour guide or through the hotel concierge. The hotel concierge said that the tour guide did not check with them if I stay in the hotel or ask them to give me a courtesy call. AAT King thinks it is ok to leave a guest waiting for the tour bus at 4:00am in the morning. And to make matter worse, AAT King and Viator advised me that they could not refund me the money for the tour that I did not take. This full day trip totally ruined my holiday plan. I am very disappointed with AAT King and Viator in handling this case.

Early morning but so well worth it. It was GIRL power with Beatrice driving, Stephanie narrating during the ride and Debbie and Mel helping out. The girls were amazing, caring for everyone in the heat. Nice breaky and Kings crossing cattle station, then a swim at Kings Resort and on the way back, last stop was Curtin crossing cattle station. Thoroughly great day, amazing landscape and colourful. Do not miss this.

Beautiful rock formations. Informative guides. Nice provided breakfast. Our favourite trip while at Uluru.

Had an excellent tour with our guides John and David from AAT Kings Tours. Both were very knowledgeable about the area and the history of the land. Most enjoyable day, thank you.

Had minimal understanding of the significance or beauty of Kings Canyon. The day trip satisfied both - the 6km Rim Walk was absolutely stunning with respect to the natural beauty and knowledge gained during the tour.

Don't miss out this great experience. If you are into geology, you will enjoy it even more. Tour starts before sunrise and will require an acceptable level of fitness. The start of the trip is the hardest part and you have the opportunity to quit after the first 200 steps climbing the canyon... hard work but the reward is worth every step. Breakfast was included but lunch is at your own expense John was an extraordinary guide!

Well organized and fun day trip. We left early in the morning but got to watch a beautiful sunrise as we traveled to Kings Canyon. Our guides Dax and John were excellent. Dax, our driver, kept us well informed of plans and our timeline organized. John provided lots of good information, stories, and a few dad jokes sprinkled in. They were both very interesting and well informed. The breakfast was delicious and I was happy to have an option of a barista made coffee. I took the easier hiking option led by Dax and I did not regret it. He described the trees and plant life along the creek and how the aboriginal people used them. Lunch and local beers at the resort were great. I really enjoyed this trip.

What an incredible day! John and Dax were brilliant guides, told informative and fun stories, took great care of us and pointed out all the highlights both on the way and during the walk. The rim walk was wonderful. There is no other word that can describe it better than … Spectacular.
