Know More about this tour

You will leave Siem reap at 8:30am and travel southeast through small beautiful rural villages and rice fields towards the great Tonle Sap lake. Depending on the time of year and the current water levels you will go as far as you can by road before reaching the point where your boat will be waiting for you.

You will then travel the rest of the way by boat down the Kompong Phluk river and into the main village. The village is home to approximately 3000 predominately Khmer fishing people, where, depending on the time of year, you will either sail on through the main street of the village (when the water is high the roads become a river) or walk along it in the low water level season. Whichever way it is a great opportunity to see how the rural fishing villages work and people live and go about their daily tasks. You will see a few schools, a large Pagoda and many stilted homes, some towering as much as 9 meters high, which are built this way to adapt to the changing water levels. It is a lovely and peaceful place to visit anytime of the year. This tour will give you the opportunity to see how a vast majority of Cambodians live as fishermen or farmers and give you an insight into their way of life.

From there you will transfer into your small boat and get rowed through the flooded forest of Kompong Phluk (or if the water levels are low we walk through the treetop canopy walkway). You will then proceed onto the great lake of Tonle Sap itself and see the small floating village which moves in and out depending on the water levels throughout the year. The actual level of the lake can vary by up to 10 meters.

After seeing the floating village you will then make your way back down the river to the collection point where your minivan will be waiting for you to take you back to your guest house or hotel.

Our family had a fantastic experience on this tour and were so well looked after by Vanna and Leng. Vanna’s English is exceptional as is his knowledge and passion for the country. He was warm, friendly and very excited to be running tours again after being impacted by COVID-19. We were picked up on time in air conditioned comfort. Loved stopping at the rural market which is one of the best markets I’ve been to, very clean and great range of products. Boating through the village was simply fascinating. We also had the opportunity to get out and walk through, interacting with local kids. The crocodile farm was an unexpected surprise and good fun! I feel this tour gave us so much more insight into life in Cambodia and our trip was definitely enriched. If you’re on the fence about travelling, jump on a plane and support Cambodia! Now is perfect with minimal tourists :)

Pleasant sightseeing with a nice guide to understand the amazing way of life of the local people according to the level of the lake.

We booked the tour with Khiri Travel. The price includes an air conditioned car, driver and an English speaking guide. Our guide Tom, was probably the best guide we’ve had in many years of travel. The tour was fascinating. Tom went out of his way to ensure that we had the opportunity to get close to real life in the village. He took great care to point out interesting activities. He took time to explain what was happening and why- he could not have done more ! Our driver Mr Jung was also a star- he drove with care and consideration and kept us safe and comfortable

The Tour was great and very informative. The tour lasts for about 3 hours only. The tour starts with a visit to the local market and the tour guide invited us to taste some fruit and two local sweets/cakes.
The tour to Kompong Phulk village was very interesting and informative. The tourists can interact with the school children and a set of books can be bought and sponsored to the children. The lake looks very muddy. It was very enlightening to see how the locals live in such harsh conditions and yet they are so happy and content with what they have.
Although the tour states light fruit lunch, don't expect a sit down, the lunch is just the tasting of the fruit at the local market.

It is quite a ride going here, road is bumby, then you'll take a boat to go to the village. The place and the culture are quite unique, though. I love the small boat ride later in the tour, where we toured around a forest with monkeys. Then the sunset (the afternoon half day tour is much better).

This tour was not like any of our other trips in Cambodia, Pick from our hotel was on time and the day ran smoothly. It was useful to have all transports, tickets and guides included in one. Our guide showed us around the market which he was local to and therefore could give us a better insight into the local life and cultures.

An excellent tour of a local market, and walk through the stilted houses in Kompong Phluk. Less tourists and a good authentic experience into how the locals live. The boat trip and stop at the floating restaurant for a beer was also good.
