What an absolute treasure of a day we spent with Mark our guide on the Hidden Craters hike! The hike was gorgeous and we were able to really experience the beauty of this island. Forests, canyons, caves, birds, amazing views with a warm hand towel at the end! Mark’s enthusiasm and love of nature was infectious and it truly added to our experience. We so enjoyed our small group who shared this with us. We highly recommend this adventure…one of the very best experiences yet!

The description sold me. The experience was far better. Our guide was excellent and personable, adapting the hike to the abilities and desires of we adventurers. I learned much about the land and the volcano, with bonuses thrown in about trees, birds, and Hawaiian history. I highly recommend this trip.

Mark was fantastic! He made the experience unforgettable. He was very passionate about the land and knowledgeable about the area we were exploring. He made it as difficult or easy as we wanted along the way. The tour provided extra bags, walking sticks, snacks, drinks, and other options which was a great added bonus to the tour because the walking sticks were definitely needed. Would recommend this to anyone looking for an amazing hike with an amazing tour guide around Kona.

Spectacular hike with from Hawaii Forest and Trail. Incredible scenery and informative, interesting info from our guide Taj. The hike wasn't too difficult, but just taxing enough. And the views to the ocean and nearby islands were memory-making. Lava tubes really cool. Highly recommend this tour company.

I wish the weather wasn't so overcast during the day of our tour, but the craters were still breathtaking anyway! Mateo (our guide) was very knowledgeable and made sure that everyone was safe and comfortable. Without saying so, he was very aware when to stop and let folks who had a little more difficulty hiking catch their breath and rest. This isn't an intense hike, but the terrain can be tricky depending on recent rain/trail conditions. My wife and I are in decent shape, but when we were descending the trail (it was slippery) that my knees were definitely throbbing! This tour definitely isn't for you if you have bum knees or are not in good physical condition. I thank the crew for providing ample snacks, drinks, and especially, hiking poles, to make sure the guests were taken care of! I also appreciate Mateo for sharing local stories and legends to give us a newfound appreciation of the land.

Our tour guide & driver, Mark, was outstanding. He was very knowledgeable, safety-oriented, and had good presentation skills. It made for an enjoyable experience. The hike is considered "moderate" with initial uphill hiking through brush, but you are offered walking sticks that are highly recommended. The hike is worthwhile as you get to descend into a lava funnel with a rope and finally scale the spine/edge of the crater. Mark took frequent rests for our small group of 9 to appreciate the flora & fauna which he described clearly and in a fashion to capture your interest. The tour offers you replenishing drinks and energy bars/snacks, and a backpack if you failed to bring one - Hawaii Forest & Trails does look out for you. And this is what I personally would like to stress. I will definitely check out this company again for other tours.

We had a splendid experience. The hike was a little more than moderate. There was some challenging terrain and steepness. Awesome views up on the elevation. Our guide Mark and Nick were great. Knowledgeble and safe concious. This hike can be slippery, there are lots of loose gravel. I would recommend this activity to anyone.

Amazing hike where one could see the craters ,the lava rocks, the lava tube and hike through the lava tube as well as the cloud forest with the large ferns and trees It was a difficult hike for all three of us and we are all physically active but not hikers but it was safe and we were given walking sticks and guided through out by Mike our guide who was very good and helped ably by Rob The colors and beauty of nature were on full display and later in the afternoon the clouds rolled in lightly making this a magical nature event We are very happy we did this hike one of the highlights of our trip I had mild altitude sickness that passed with slower pace and few rest stops ,which they were very patient with and later I was fine Would do it again !!
