All tours include a one-way ride on the Kuranda scenic railway and a one-way ride on the Skyrail rainforest cableway (direction of each depends on option selected), as well as hotel pickup and drop-off in Cairns and the northern beaches. All tours also include free time in Kuranda so you can explore the village however you wish. Kuranda scenic railway: The one-way train ride is approximately 1.5 hours. Hear about the pioneering history of the region from the onboard commentary, and admire spectacular views of the landscape that includes mountains, waterfalls and rainforest. Pass through Barron gorge national park, stopping for a photo op at the gorge, and cross Stoney Creek Bridge. When you reach the Kuranda train station, notice its tropical gardens and heritage-listed building.

Skyrail rainforest cableway: Glide over the rainforest in a 6-passenger gondola, admiring unbeatable views as you pass over the peak of the mountain range. During the 4.5-mile (7.5-km) ride, stop twice along the way to hop out and explore the environment. Walk along a boardwalk on the forest floor, take photos from scenic lookouts and visit the interpretive center.

Itinerary:

Select one of the following tour options when booking. All options include a Kuranda Boarding Pass, which provides a written itinerary available in six languages, pre-allocated seating on the Kuranda Scenic Railway and express check-in at the Skyrail so you can go straight to the boarding area.

Scenic Railway – Kuranda – Skyrail (8.5 hours):
Your day starts with a short drive from your accommodation to the Freshwater train station, about 6 miles (10 km) northwest of central Cairns, to board the Kuranda Scenic Railway to Kuranda. After your free time in Kuranda, head to the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway for your aerial ride to the Caravonica Terminal, where you’ll be picked up and taken back to your accommodation.

Skyrail – Kuranda – Scenic Railway (10 hours):
After hotel pickup, you’ll be driven to the Freshwater train station, where you’ll check in and then transfer to the Caravonica Terminal of the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. Board the cableway for the aerial ride to Kuranda. After free time in town, board the Kuranda Scenic Railway for the train journey back to Freshwater, from where you’ll be returned to your accommodation.

Tjapukai – Skyrail – Kuranda – Scenic Railway (9 hours):
Your day trip begins with hotel pickup for the drive to Tjapukai Aboriginal Culture Park, about 10 miles (16 km) northwest of central Cairns. When you arrive, meet your indigenous guide who will lead you around the park’s attractions, including didgeridoo, bush food and fire-making demonstrations and a performance by the Tjapukai Dance Troupe. Throw a boomerang, listen to unique music and learn about Australia’s ancient cultures. You can get lunch on your own in the park, or wait until later in the day (own expense).

You can also visit the Koala and Wildlife Park to feed kangaroos by hand, be amused by lazy wombats or even hold a koala, if you wish (koala holding is at your own expense).

While the trip itself was fabulous, the value did not meet Viators high standards in my opinion.
Hotel pickup was indeed utilized and it was prompt and efficient.
We were a group of 4 who paid in excess of $700 for the excursion. Doing it in our own would have saved us at least $300.
Cable car and train as well as the visit to Karanda are not to be missed.
This was an excursion that did not provide guides.

I dont like heights, but still found the cable car nice. If that's something that worries you, it doesnt go extremely high up, and you get breaks in between to walk forest boardwalks.

The train is also very good. You get alot of chances to take photos, although the train only stopped once. There are plenty of clearings on the way down to see the ocean and towns below.

Wonderful experience taking the train up to Kuranda and the Sky Train (gondola) Back. Once in Krunda you can take in the wildlife experience or visit shops. Your retrun trip in the gondola is great the vista's are wonderful and stops worth while.

This tour was well-organized and ran very smoothly. The Railway trip was comfortable and beautiful. The Rainforestation Nature Park was quick but fun - we were able to feed and pet wallabies and kangaroos, and the crocodile boat tour got us up very close to the feeding crocs. The Skyrail was unbelievable - such a beautiful view, and a nice, long ride. However, there was absolutely NO free time in Kuranda. We ended up having to go back separately on a different day just to see the town.

  • 18-Nov-2019

we went up to Kuranda on the train, it was fun easy and we took lots of pictures along the way. spend time in town shopping and eating then rode the Sky Rail back down. The Sky Rail was incredible. We were high above the trees you can see for miles. Get out on the first stop and see the gorge from that side it breathe taking.

  • 08-Nov-2019

An incredible day! Rode the Sky Rail up, the Train back - I highly recommend this experience. The river and the shops in Kuranda were easily accessible. The Train ride down impressive and informative.

  • 31-Oct-2019

The train ride was excellent but the gondola ride down was the highlight of the day.....Recommended tour for anyone wishing to see some really great scenery.

  • 28-Oct-2019

We took the scenic railway up to Kuranda and had a look around in the Market and Bird World there along with time to stop to have a bite to eat. Beautiful place, I would recommend and go back again. We then took the cable car back down to get a different view which was amazing.

  • 21-Oct-2019

You do not need to pay extra to hold the bear - only if you want a picture taken ( it is a very good picture). We would have liked to see the butterflies and birds also but felt rushed.

  • 16-Oct-2019

I only wish we had spent more time in Kuranda so we could have enjoyed the Butterfly's, Koalas, and birds more. The train ride was so easy and scenic. The tram offered beautiful views. It was absolutely wonderful.
