Overview

Escape the traffic of Bogot and hike through lush Andean forests to visit two mighty cascades of water, El Chifln and La Chorrera, Colombias tallest waterfall. Accompanied by an expert guide, drive through the East Hills and then trek through dense countryside to discover a wonderland of natural beauty. After your 3-hour hike of medium to high difficulty, tuck into a hearty traditional meal at a local restaurant in the charming colonial village of Choach. Pickup and drop-off from most hotels included.

Know More about this tour

After morning pickup from your Bogot hotel, travel with your guide for about 45 minutes to the southern part of the East Hills, rolling lands of forest that are part of the Andean mountain range. As you listen to commentary about the local geology, head up a winding mountain pass with breathtaking views of cliffs and chasms. Then, drive by Choach, a colonial village with a lovely church in its town square.

Disembark in the countryside to begin your 3-hour round-trip hike of medium to high difficulty. First, follow your guide through verdant woodlands to El Chifln, pounding waterfalls sheeting off an escarpment. Scamper behind the raging cascade and feel its spray on your skin. If you like, take a dip in the turquoise pool of water at the base of the waterfall, and then refuel with a provided locally prepared snack.

Next, your guide takes you back into the forests, where youll huff your way for about an hour to La Chorrera waterfall. Pass by creeks and a diversity of plant and tree life, which your guide points out along the way, including bromeliads, orchids, juniper, sapodilla, cedar and mahogany. Youll hear the roar of La Chorrera before seeing it. Snap shots of the falls that are 1,936 feet (590 meters) tall, and relax for a while before hiking back to the vehicle.

Finish your day in La Candelaria, where youll dig into a delicious traditional lunch at a local restaurant. Depending on the menu, typical Colombian fare might include ajiaco (chicken and potato soup) or sancocho (beef, chicken or vegetable stew), along with side dishes of meat, chicken, rice and salad.

After a rewarding day in the countryside, youll be transported back to your hotel, or another place in Bogot if you prefer.

Please note: Throughout the day, youll be traveling and hiking at elevations ranging from 6,309 to 8,530 feet (1,923 to 2,600 meters) above sea level.

  • Emilio was a fantastic guide and we had a wonderful hike and lunch.

Would love to go on another tour with him and Viator!

  • BEAUTIFUL! Pick up was right on time, driver was friendly and professional, our guide Andres was full of good vibes, knowledgeable, and fed us super well. An unforgettable experience

  • Alejandro and Diego were awesome! Trip was fun and beautiful. 10/10!

  • We did the day hike to La Chorrera Falls and it was a outstanding day in Colombia, our guide Andres was outstanding and he took the time to provide details of Colombia on the way to the hike, During the hiking experience he described all the flowers, trees and shrubs along the path and what the locals used them for as well as describing the wildlife along the trail. Breakfast and lunch was provided and was great, highly recommend this hike while your in Colombia.

  • I had an excellent experience and the hike was beautiful. Very knowledgeable tour guide.

  • The views were amazing and the hike out was fun. That being said, the trail is very slippery, so if you are not prepared to fall, then don't go none of us slipped, but we saw others that did. We were picked up from our hotel and on our way to the falls we were offered some local cuisine, but had a big breakfast so only a taste. After the hike, we had a quick snack and then were treated to a nice meal back in Bogota. It can be cloudy, so be patient and wait for a view of the falls. Lots of great pictures and memories would do it again.

  • What a terrific day. An energetic hike to the waterfall but I was in good hands with my guide and driver.Guide was informed and very friendly. Both myself and the driver slipped in parts and ended up with very muddy jeans and filthy hands but it's part of the experience. Couldn't recommend this tour enough.

  • Great tour. Felipe did a great job explaining the area and was knowledgeable. Would definitely do this tour again.

  • The cardio workout on this trip should not be understated - certainly not the choice for the couch potatoes or persons who are not used to the altitude. Overall - we loved it - it was a really great day trip, and the scenery as incredible. Alejandro our guide was very good and very patient. Lunch option was a bit too rustic, but delicious!

  • This was a great hike! A little more challenging than I expected but the tour guide was happy to take breaks as needed. The scenery is beautiful and untouched and makes a great change of pace from Bogota without having to travel very far. The tour guides were very friendly and fun to hike with.
