We booked the trip at the last minute and we’re so glad we did! Helen was our guide and clearly enjoyed being our guide and showing us all that the rainforest had to offer. I mentioned that I liked plants and she spent much of the hike showing us various plant species along the way. She also proudly shared Costa Rican history with us, while guiding us down and back up the 530 steps. The waterfall was beautiful and swimming in it was really cool. The current in the pool directly under the waterfall was strong, but a second pool a little bit lower had a great view of the falls without the need to tread water. Highly recommend the tour and Helen as the guide!

JP was an exceptional tour guide. His van was beautifully maintained and he was not only punctual but early. JP is very friendly and knowledgeable, not only educating myself and my new bride on the local flora and fauna but also helping others along the hike. Enroute he spotted a sloth and pulled over so we could enjoy the sight! He kept us safe and made us feel like family. JP made this excursion a once in a lifetime experience that we will never forget! As newly weds on our honeymoon we could not have dreamed of a better guide in a more beautiful place! Thank you JP!!!!!! Pura Vida!!!!!!!

Unforgettable experience swimming in the waterfall. Our guide JP was great company. Very entertaining, knowledgeable and considerate. He showed us so much en route to and returning from the waterfall. Really enjoyed the mango and oranges he perforated for us after.

My wife and I liked our driver (Felix) and guide (Walter) but a tour guide is not needed for this excursion. Tickets can be purchased at the door and a taxi can be taken to the park. Again, Felix and Walter gave us great service but we should have saved the money and done this on our own.

Our tour company had arranged for Jacamar to pick us up at our hotel. Our guide, Ron, introduced our driver, and provided us with bottled water as we drove to the falls, which are privately owned. He did an excellent job as we walked the 200+ steps down, making sure we had good footing on a day with occasional showers and that we stopped to see something periodically on the way back up, which ensured we didn't overtax ourselves. As a member of a small indigenous tribe, he told us a bit about his tribe and others but highlighted the vegetation and birds on the hike. His English was excellent and he made the trip highly enjoyable. We recommend this company.

We booked a waterfall hike with Jacamar in July and were pleasantly surprised that we were the only ones on this tour (we are a couple in our fifties). Allan was our guide and he promptly met us at the appointed time and drove us to the waterfall entrance where there is a restroom (large/clean) where we changed into our swimsuits. We then made the short hike (20 mins) down to the water. We were able to leave our things/towels with Allan while we went exploring. Spent about 1.5 hours in the water (wear water shoes, it is very rocky), and made the hike back up to the restaurant for a quick lunch. Allan was very patient and easy to talk to. We spent some time at the restaurant learning about the Costa Rica area/history before driving back to the hotel. The next day we booked a stand up paddle boarding tour and to our surprise, Allan showed up as our guide and again we were the only ones for the morning. Another private tour! Being our first time on paddle boards, Allan taught and demonstrated the basic techniques, and accompanied us the entire time we were out on the water. He even had a boat follow us to the small island and back just in case we were tired or wanted water. This boat was large enough to hold 25 people! Because we brought our phones (buy a waterproof pouch-they are worth the $6), Allan was able to take photos of us on the water and on the island. Again, he was very personable and answered many questions about the area/people/culture etc. It was a very relaxing morning on the water, and we finished by having coconut water from fresh coconuts that Allan brought along. We were very happy with both of our tours as there were no gliches, pick up was on-time, we never felt rushed and we were told to take our time. La Fortuna is a beautiful area, I would highly recommend Allan and Jacamar tours to friends and family.
