Pickup from your hotel in Arusha at 7am and enjoy a spectacular one-day trip that includes wildlife-viewing and an opportunity to learn about the everyday lives of Tanzanian villagers. On the edge of the Rift Valley, Lake Manyara National Park is small, but its diverse eco-systems pack in a huge variety of animal and bird life. It is rightly famous for its tree-climbing lions, but also for its boisterous baboons! A riot of color is provided by the bird life here, and your day trip also includes a village tour of Mto wa Mbu.Set amidst phenomenal landscape, you search out the wildlife on the plains and in the acacia woodlands, not forgetting the shores of the shallow alkaline lake itself. Although this is a small park, with much of it underwater, it is a varied environment with characteristic fig and mahogany trees prevalent here. You might spot Lake Manyara's renowned tree-climbing lions, but you could easily find elephant, hippo, wildebeest, buffalo and giraffe, plus many other species. A splash of color will be added by the pink-hued flamingos, one of 400 bird species recorded here. Also present are spoonbills, stilts, egrets, pelicans, cormorants and yellow-billed storks.

We were picked up from the safari lodge at the agreed time. During the drive to the national park the guide gave us some information about the area and what else was in the vicinity. After we arrived at the park we had a short stop to open the rooftop of the jeep. During the game drive the radio was on to hear from other groups which animals can be spotted where. The lake area was flooded so some routes inside the park were inaccessible. All in all it was an excellent game drive and we had a very experienced guide called Haroon. He was able to tell as a lot about the animals that we spotted. He also spotted some animals long before we noticed. Lunch had a variety of Tanzanian foods, very delicious. Bottles of water were available in abundance. As it was a private tour we had the freedom to stay longer at places or to move on. After the safari we felt that it was very safe and a lot can be seen. As it was our first time going for safaris we felt reluctant before our trip, afterwards we feel that we should come back on short notice for a longer Serengeti Game Drive.

Another great experience! The animals were not quite as abundant in the afternoon. But I was able to meet some Masai tribesman whom described and and let me experience their lifestyle. Again, my guide was the best and has become a brother for life!
