Know More about this tour

Langtang Valley Trek is one of the most popular treks famous for its snowcapped peaks, pine and rhododendron forest, mountain stream and meadows. Located just 122km north of Kathmandu in Rasuwa district, Langtang trek is also known as glaciers trek and is comparatively less crowded than others.

Trek starts from Dhunche (1960m) or Syabrubesi (1503m) passing through Khangjim (2235m), Sherpagaun (2563m), Lama Hotel (2340m), Ghoratabela (3030m), Langtang Village (3430m) finally culminating in Kyangjing Gompa (3830m). The Langtang Village suffered maximum damage by 2015 Earthquake. Trekking activity has since resumed in Langtang as local communities have rebuilt lodges and trekking trails.

Kyangjing Gompa affords breathtaking views of Langtang Ri and Yala peak and with a possibility of a day hike from here to explore Langshisa Kharka (4285m) and Langtang Glacier (4800m). You also have the opportunity to climb Tshergo Ri without the need to pay royalty. The trail entirely passes through Langtang national park, which is home to such endangered species as Red Panda, Snow Leopard and Himalayan Black Bear. The forest combines a mix of pine, oaks and rhododendron species.

If time is limited and money isnt an issue, consider adding a helicopter ride out from Kyanjin. Not only will this shorten the trip significantly and prevent you from needing to retrace your route, but youll have unforgettable views that cant be had any other way.

If you have got more time, this trek combines well with the nearby Tamang Heritage trail, which adds an extra 4-6 days of trekking. There you will learn more about the ethnic Tamang people, who originally came from Tibet.

Alternatively, trek over Gosainkunda back to Kathmandu instead of driving. Gosainkund is a beautiful blue high-altitude lake. It is preferable to trek to Gosainkunda on the return from Langtang rather than on the way, as it requires a fairly steep ascent, and by this point you will be better acclimatized, making the height of the lake (4,380 m.) less of a concern. (If trekking this route without a guide, be especially careful with the altitudenumerous people have been caught out by a dangerous error in a commonly available trekking map that incorrectly lists some altitudes. Double-check all altitudes before setting off.

The Langtang Valley is well set-up with plenty of comfortable lodges. While the earthquake and landslide destroyed Langtang Village, and many of other settlements were less affected and good options are still plentiful. The standard here is good, with warm blankets, fireplaces, comfortable beds, the occasional hot shower (for an extra fee). We provide your meals in the tea-houses.

To trek in the Langtang National Park you have to drive to Dunche, Sano Barkhu or Syabru Besi to start the trek. Public buses are available from Kathmandu, but slow. A private vehicle or jeep is a much better option. Exit is via the same route unless you trek over Gosainkunda and back through Helambu to Kathmandu.

Youll need a TIMS card (US$10) and a Langtang National Park permit (US$34). If youre trekking with an agency, they will arrange these for you. If youre arranging the trek yourself, youll need to pick up your TIMS permit in Kathmandu and your Langtang National Park permit in Dunche.
