Overview

Discover the awe-inspiring Duomo of Milan during this private tour! Together with your private local guide you will visit the cathedral from the basement to the famous rooftop of the church.

The Duomo is the symbol of the city, a treasure box full of ancient and peculiar gems. Its Gothic architecture, frescoes and statues will tell you the story of the city and the historical events that have marked it. From the 14th century works of art, to the pagan symbols, until the most recent structural actions to statues and faade, the Duomo will leave you speechless.

During the tour you will visit the crypt under the altar, then, you will use the elevator to reach the first terrace, saving you 200 steps. Once on the rooftops, you will admire the skyline of the city, while your guide will show you the most important ancient and modern buildings of Milan. Remember that this is a private tour, so your guide will at your full disposal for every question and request.

Know More about this tour

The Duomo is one of the most iconic buildings in Milan, the true symbol of the city. While walking through the main aisle you will be introduced to the history of the city, to the artistic and architectural features of the church, to its countless paintings, statues and stained glass windows, and also to its many anecdotes and legends, its pagan elements such as zodiac symbols and to the many hidden secrets this place still hides!

The tour will proceed downstairs to the basement: you will visit the crypt under the altar, where the ancient tomb of Archbishop Carlo Borromeo is located.

For the second part of your tour, you will use the elevator (saving you 200 steps!) to head up the steepest part of the cathedral and reach the first terrace. Walking on the rooftops, you will see the skyline and your guide will point you at the buildings that you can spot from the top, witnessing the life of the city in constant motion from its most emblematic monument.

Not wheelchair accessible

The elevator has a maximum capacity of 7 passengers, so you might have to wait a few minutes before climbing up. However, the lift is always guaranteed.

During hot days it's recommended to wear a hat to protect yourself from the sun

The staircase to reach the highest terrace is particularly narrow and made of smooth marble; use comfortable shoes, preferably with a rubber sole.

On the terraces of the cathedral, there are no bathrooms or shops: bring water.

In the rare case of excessively bad weather, the terrace may be closed for safety reasons; in this case, your ticket will be refunded.

This tour is not recommended for people with limited mobility. While the Cathedral floor is easily accessible, the weekly Chapel, the Baptistery of St. Stephen, the Scurolo (dark room) and the Crypt of St. Charles cannot be easily reached due to stairs.
