Overview

Going West to Rabaal, a unique and magical place in Calheta, where we start a 3 hours walk (approximately) through an evergreen forest, providing great landscapes and wonderful sensations. On this hike, we will have the opportunity to admire beautiful waterfalls carved in ancient valleys, natural springs and endemic species of flora (Laurissilva Forest) and fauna. After the walk, we will have a lunch break (not included) in a typical Madeiran restaurant in Pal da Serra, the biggest plateau of the island at nearly 1500 mts high with stunning views. Later on, we go downhill through a wonderful off-road to the South Coast. Continuing by the coast, we go to Cabo Giro, known by its suspended glass floor viewpoint which offers a spectacular panoramic view over the Atlantic, Cmara de Lobos and Funchal. Despite the rain, and limited visibility Ruben, our guide, ensured that we had a memorable experience. His knowledge of the island’s flora and history was impressive and his friendliness and inclusiveness meant that everyone on the trip was engaged. The off road experience was good fun. Try to pick good weather, as the poor conditions did mean that we could not see much of the waterfalls and the glass balcony experience was pretty much a waste of time because of the mist and low cloud. If you don’t have a phone, take a torch as part of the walk is through a pretty long and dark tunnel. The lunch was also very good with a wide choice of food.

A very nice guide and good driver as well. The tour is very beautiful and easy too. Very nice view and much things to learn from the guide.

Great guide. Shares knowledge about nature and history of Madeira. It’s good that the tour takes place early in the morning so you avoid the masses of tourists

This walk was easily our favourite hike that we did in Madeira, the scenery was so beautiful! Our guide, Reuben, was very knowledgeable and had interesting facts at every turn about whatever was in front of us. The drive down through the forest was so much fun when Reuben took the roof down and allowed us to stand up to enjoy the views properly!

Reuben is an excellent guide and take extra care of my car sick, loads of dead jokes too. The 4X4 experience is definitely something more interesting than the waterfalls.

This tour was simply amazing! Rubin was a lovely guide, gave us all the info we needed to know and more, the levada walk is such a calm and magnificent thing to do! After that, the tour in the open jeep was so exciting, going through some woods of eucalyptus that smelled incredible. His skills of driving are amazing, you are 100% safe with him. You will emjoy some incredible views over the cities and ocean. The stop at the skywalk made it even more fun, overall we had such a nice day!

We experienced a very pleasant walk and 4X4 tour throughout the day, thanks to Ruben! We really want to recommend this tour as you will be able to see a beautiful part of nature combined with a well-informed guide. Ruben also gave us the opportunity to have lunch at an enjoyable sideroad restaurant at the top of the western plateau.

Our tour was cancelled due to poor weather, so we were booked onto a different tour instead (Volcanic Pools). It was in a jeep and took in some stunning sights. So, the trip itself was great. The problem was the tour guide/driver, Sergio. He insisted on putting the roof down for almost the whole tour, even though it wasn't very warm that day and particularly those of us in the back were freezing cold! He was a reckless driver and spent the whole tour boasting about having been a rally driver and all the near misses and accidents he'd had, which didn't exactly inspire confidence. One of the seat belts in the back was also faulty.

Great trip, well organised! Gill was very knowledgeable and an amazing driver especially on the mountain roads! Loved every minute of it and super for taking memorable photos!

The walk in the tunnel, the walk in exotic forests and reaching the final destination at the water falls were all moments that everybody should have the opportunity to experience. The nature is amazing and our guide gave us many stories about this unique part of Madeira. The jeep ride was like sitting in a class room where the guide taught us everything about flowers, fruits and tries. Thank you for an extreordinary tour.
