Know More about this tour

Meet your guide in Miraflores, an upscale district in Lima, and kick off your afternoon tour at a local market hall for a feast of the senses. As you explore the stalls, indulge your impulses to purchase and sample what tempts you along the way.

Over 300 types of pimiento chile, or chili peppers, are used in Peruvian cuisine. Your guide points out peppers of various colors and shapes, like aji limo, aji mirasol and aji panca, and explains how each is used to season soups, rice dishes and sauces. Among the vibrant displays of all kinds of produce, discover native Andean fruits, like the green scaly-skinned cherimoya, which tastes simialr to a pineapple.

Next, board a city bus with your guide to Chorrillos, a residential neighborhood in southern Lima far from the tourist trail. Follow your guide to a private home where a family will share recipes handed down for generations.

In the kitchen, you receive hands-on instruction on various cooking methods and learn the secrets behind traditional recipes. Prepare a classic ceviche, Peru’s national dish, made with fish caught that day and an enticing mix of limes, onions, coriander and a few other key ingredients. Then stir up some chichi morada, a sweet and refreshing beverage made from purple corn, believed to have healing properties.

Also on the menu is causa limeña, a popular summer dish made with potatoes, chilis and lime, to accompany your ceviche. Round out your lesson by shaking up a pisco sour using an original recipe by the family.

When the food is ready to be served, sit down for the delicious fare and conversation in the warm, relaxed ambiance of the family home. With your appetite sated, bid your hostess a fond farewell and make your way back to the starting point on your own.

  • Had a great afternoon with Paula and her mum Mechita!

  • This was a great activity to expand our experience of Lima. Paula and her mother were very good hosts and it was good to enjoy cooking in the intimacy of their home after a visit to the local market. A treat and a privilege not to be missed.

  • We really enjoyed the food during our 2 weeks in Peru and participating in a hands-on Lima Home Cooked tour/cooking class to learn the secrets of how to make some of the great Peruvian dishes we loved was something else, an experience I would recommend to all.

Paula meet us and took us around to a local market to see the fresh foods that we were going to use and then we travelled like a local on the Lima bus system to Paula's mothers' home were all the food preparation was done, ready for us to start creating some wonder dishes and great memories. After learning many home cooked secrets we sat down and enjoyed the dishes we had just created while sipping Pisco sours. Paula and her mother were not only fantastic cooks but excellent hosts. At the end of the evening Paula arranged transport to get us safely back to our hotel. It was an excellent afternoon and evening and capped off a great time in Peru. Thanks Paula and her mum!

  • Wonderful experience, Paula and her mother are wonderful hosts. A great hands on cooking school. I would highly recommend this tour.

  • This was our favorite tour that we went on during our 31 day South American Princess cruise. We booked this tour with some trepidation due to the fact that we had never been in the country nor did we speak the language. We were met on time at the designated meeting spot by Paula who was so sweet, friendly and informative that we felt immediately at ease. We walked to a market where the locals shop and browsed the massive amount of fresh everything while Paula bought some things and we tasted a few samples. Paula then took us to the bus stop where we hopped on very interesting with the locals for the ride to Paula's families' beautiful and spotless home. There in the brightly colored open air kitchen we were taught how to cook, hands on, some delicious local dishes with the best ingredients. Everything was so much fun and comfortable, they were the perfect hostesses while also making us feel at home. We also loved learning how to make Pisco Sours after dinner. We felt absolutely safe everywhere we went with her. We laughed so much and had such a good time we didn't want to leave. When it was time to go she just called us an Uber who came in a new car and brought us safely back to our cruises meeting point. She emailed us recipes for everything we made. I would highly recommend this evening for everyone.

  • One of the best experiences we had in Lima! It was just the two of us and one other person. Our guide spoke fluent English and took us to a market that you could tell was not frequented by tourists love!. Our guide's mother ran the cooking class and was such a kind soul. I still remember things we made there they sent us a copy of the recipes too and wouldn't trade this experience for anything.

  • The Lima cooking class was a lot of fun, and a great way to get to know the people and cuisine of Peru. Paula and her mom were wonderful. We made a potato dish, followed by ceviche and pisco sours. All easy to make and delicious. A truly unforgettable evening.

  • I can and #39;t recommend this tour enough. It gives you an insight into real life in Lima, and the hostesses were just delightful. They were so generous, the class was great, if you like cooking and understanding local life, you should definitely do this your.

  • Great experience. Both our guide and host were so friendly and was a highlight of our trip.

  • We absolutely enjoyed our experience at the Cusco Culinary Institute. Our Chef, Ingrid, picked us up at our hotel and we walked to the San Pedro Market where we got a great tour of this massive indoor market. We then walked to the Cusco Culinary Institute to partake in a fruit tasting of many Peruvian fruits. After making a variety of Pisco Sours, we cooked a three course Peruvian/Asian fusion meal under the tutelage of Ingred. We had our meal, that was quite delicious, then were delighted with our dessert of Frozen Cheese, a typical Arequipan dish. Thank you Ingrid for a delightful day.
