Overview
This photography walk is a private small group activity focused on showing you Lisbon's best corners and hidden gems in the best possible light. Also, we'll help you to improve your photographic skills in night photography. It's targeted at anyone with an interest in photography and willing to discover the beauties of Lisbon. Guided by a Lisbon local and pro photographer, expect great insights on both photography and Lisbon.
Guests will learn and improve their photography skills as teaching will be adapted to the guest's level and equipment.
Itinerary:
We meet in the late afternoon, roughly 30 minutes before sunset, in time to take advantage of the sunset and blue hour light from one of the beautiful viewpoints in the city or elsewhere. The goal will be to shoot stunning images of the Lisbon skyline with lights on and some deep blue sky. After this initial round of scenic images, we will be heading towards the old neighborhoods of the city. Alleys, small squares, and pulsing local life will be our subjects. Much of the time, we will be walking through alleys and staircases where we can work with calm and do amazing images while keeping a good chat about photography and the city. Don't forget the trams, such a popular subject that we will be shooting in a few different places depending on the day's route. It's a blessing to go with a seasoned photographer like Miguel to hidden spots you never would have thought off. You find yourself suddenly discovering sites to take pictures off, and you get professional tips and feed back by Miguel. He is very knowledgeable and in a short time I did benefit so much. Best to do it early in your stay so you have time to put the skills and ideas learned into practice

Miguel was very knowledgeable and helpful in providing a great nighttime experience in Lisbon. He not only took us to great photo spots but he also gave us some historical/local information.

The three-hour night photography walking tour I took with Miguel and another photographer helped improve my photography. We meandered through various neighborhoods in and around Lisbon’s central district and up and down its hilly terrain. We snapped photos of everything from wonderful cityscapes below, to people dining on the streets and squares, to dark alleys with graffiti murals. I got to see pockets of the city I don’t think I would have on my own. If I had a question, Miguel had an answer. He helped me learn how to better navigate and use my new Sony a74. Even though I’m an experienced photographer, my weakness has always been shooting in low light. Miguel suggested I switch from shooting strictly in manual mode to shutter priority. At one point, we stood for a time taking photos of street trolleys passing by so I could work on improving my ability to capture motion blur. During the rest of my trip through Portugal, I shot in shutter priority and my night photos looked much improved. If I can take just one helpful tip away from tours like this, it’s worth it to me. Thanks to Miguel, I’m more equipped to take better low-light shots.

It was just me and my guide Miguel. I learned so much and we walked around and took photos until quite late. We switched back and forth from night photography to black and white night photos where I think I took some pretty good shots and had a great time.

This tour was geared toward the serious photographer, but Miguel had a little something for everyone. I carried semi-serious (MILS) gear and a trip. My buddy had only his iPhone. There were just the two of us, and Miguel spent equal time with each of us. Because this was a "night" tour (from the just after sundown "blue hour" into the night), it was probably unique from other day tours. We did shoot from one of the many "miradouros" in the city early on, with the city, mouth of the river, and ocean in view. But after that most of it was wandering around parts of the city's local streets and finding shots to be made of "street scenes." We both learned some new techniques, as well as seeing some very cool things. Especially for the very modest cost involved, I felt like it was a great experience, and would highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in travel photography. Miguel was knowledgeable, gracious, and shared some of the interesting history of Portugal along the way.
