Meet your expert guide at the bus station in central Inverness to begin your tour. Then, leave the city by air-conditioned coach and travel southwest to Clansman Harbor. As you travel, listen to your guide sharing interesting stories and details about Inverness and Loch Ness.

Set on the north shores of what is perhaps the most mysterious stretch of water in the world, Loch Ness Clansman Harbor lies at the foot of rambling hills, just a stones throw from Inverness city center. Here, switch your coach for a cruise boat and take in the stunning natural vistas as you slip away from shore toward the romantic ruins of Urquhart Castle. Keep looking out for a glimpse of the fabled Loch Ness Monster as you glide!

Enjoy a 1-hour tour of the dilapidated castle that, in its 500 years as a medieval fortress, has a particularly dark and bloody past. Learn about King Edward Is invasion in the 13th century, its importance during the Scots struggle for independence in the 14th century and the raids from MacDonald Lord of the Isles during the 15th and 16th centuries.

After exploring the ruins, reboard your coach and head to the Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition. Opened over 30 years ago, the multimedia exhibition center boasts seven themed areas that are crammed with over 500 million years of history, mystery and legends of Loch Ness and its famous monster, Nessie.
Following your 1-hour independent visit of the center, enjoy a scenic coach ride back to central Inverness, where your tour concludes.

  • This was a pleasant trip although I wish I had skipped the Loch Ness Centre. Our guide was great.

  • Very nice 4 hour day trip , Ian was nice and showed us all around Inverness and tons of history .

  • Loch Ness by Jacobite tours is worth every penny. The tour guide Alan, is very witty and is pleasant to listen to. Also, quite knowledgeable. I felt a little rushed at the castle, it would be very easy to spend hours wandering the grounds. The visitor center and the film on the castle are worth visiting.

  • Great

  • This was great! And we discovered our new favorite cold-weather drink of hot chocolate and single-malt scotch!

  • Although I am sure we spotted her, the tour was a lot of fun and a really nice day out on the water. The castle was fun to visit and an outstanding video of the history was a great element of the tour.

  • A great tour. Perfect if you dont have a lot of time and still want to experience Loch Ness and walk around the castle. Our guide Allen was entertaining and kept us on track.

  • Good tour and cruise--enjoyed

  • The trip was absolutely stunning late August 2017. The bus departure station staff for the tour a lovely lady went out of her way to be helpful to me. Always had a smile for customers!

The bus driver took a lovely scenic route to the place where we embarked on the river cruise, and gave interesting narrations along the way. The riverboat cruise was a bit crowded at the front of the boat with people wanting photographs, while others remained inside looking through glass windows, but the views were amazing wherever you were.

When we got to Urquhart Castle, we were free to roam the castle for plenty of time if you didn't stop for long in any one place. Do a little research on the castle before you go so you can spend your time NOT reading the marker signs. One major CAUTION: the walk back up to the Castle gift shop and then further up to the bus parking area is a LONG uphill walk!! The parking lot is NOT at the gift shop, but ABOVE the gift shop! Give yourself at least the last 30 minutes to get to the gift shop, stand in line to pay, use the restrooms if needed, then to walk UPHILL to the bus in time to leave. The bus WILL LEAVE if you are not there on time! If you miss the bus, the bus or another will come by to pick you up when it comes by for another tour. I'd say skip the gift shop and pack your own snacks inside a rucksack beforehand. Spend your time enjoying the castle and not having to run uphill to the bus loading site!

We then drove through lovely village roads to the Loch Ness Information Center. I skipped the presentation and used my time for a quick browse through gift shop, visited the restroom, got a snack they serve ice cream and walked enjoyably back to the bus. If you choose the view the presentation, be aware that there may not be time for the other options without rushing. Again, the bus WILL leave if you are not there on time to board. We had one passenger left at Urquhart Castle.

Bus driver Ian was a good narrator, but was very rude to an elderly passenger who asked about the bus departure time after the driver had explained in very rapid speech beforehand. I'm not an elderly foreigner, but I had a hard time myself keeping up with those rattled instructions and I sat in the middle of the bus. The scolding the man received was uncalled for, especially in front of the other passengers and so intentionally loudly. But Ian also graciously allowed me back on the bus when my ticket was lost from my coat pocket, so that should be reported, too. SAVE YOUR TICKETS!! They will ask for you to turn them in at the end of the trip! If that was told to us, I must have missed it!

I love Viator's trips, and I really loved this one it was very WORTH the money spent!. I highly recommend it to anyone who has little time to visit Inverness as I had. I saw a LOT in a little time, and that was a good thing! Do wear good shoes for walking and keep aware of the time. If I could suggest any improvement, it would be for trams to take passengers to out-of-the-way bus departure areas.

  • The tour was nicely done. The tour driver Ian, was very entertaining and knowledgeable about the area around Inverness and Loch Ness. The weather cooperated and we had a mildly windy day with no rain for the 30 minute cruise down the lake. The walk about at Urqhart Castle was very enjoyable. The preservation of the castle ruins is well done and the site is immaculate. I would recommend however that the tour be given a bit more time at the Castle. The Loch Ness Center was informative, and mildly interesting, but really could use some updating.. some of the visual effects and audio are badly in need of modernization. Perhaps Jacobite might consider offering just the boat trip and castle stop as an alternative in the same time frame.
