This private day tour takes you to visit both Guyaju Cave Dwellings and Longqingxia Gorge in Beijing. You will be able to see 174 amazing caves in Guyaju, which were reportedly carved by an ethnic minority called the Xiyi during the Tang dynasty (618-907 AD). Most of the caves are bunched together in two rock face villages, resembling ant farms for humans. In addition, take a fun boat ride in beautiful Longqing Gorge where you will see clear waters, wooded mountains, curious stones and wonderful karst caves. Flanked on both sides by green peaks and capped to the north by the Gucheng Reservoir, built in 1981, the gorge offers peaceful yet dramatic scenery of wooded mountains, curious stones, and karst caves. During a 1.5-hour cruise through the ravine, feel the gentle breeze blowing against your face and enjoy theview of passing attractions likeBaihua (Hundred Flowers) Cave and the Shenxianyuan (Immortal) and Jingang temples.

After the morning boat ride, enjoy a lunch of regional cuisine at a famer's house. Continue on to theGuyaju caves, a multi-village complex of more than 170 dwellings carved directly into the rock face. Believed to have beencarved by an ethnic minority called the Xiyi between the Tang and Liao Dynasties, the remarkable caves resemble 'ant farms for humans' and consist ofrooms of varyingshapes and styles complete with doors, windows, kitchen ranges, and closets.

Highly recommend going to this tour, and its very valuable to have a driver and guide to get you there - otherwise, it's pretty remote and could be very hard to find. Truly a beautiful area. I am a woman travelling alone and usually like to get a driver and guide for this reason but in this case, I did not feel comfortable with the guide and driver I was given through this excursion - to the point that I messaged my hotel and family with all my details in case I did not get back by a certain time. Also disappointing, I was charged a much higher price than was advertised on the sales page, and /trip advisor did not refund the difference. BIG PICTURE: VISIT THIS AREA BUT NOT WITH THIS TOUR

Lisa our guide showed us around and we had a great day, we ended up booking her for 2 more days and other tours as it made our short stay in China that much easier. She even arranged private transport for a night tour of the Great Wall.

Thank You “Lisa” and driver “Tschai” for an informative and enjoyable final full day in China. Our two week adventure in China completed in the Beijing area with an culturally informative two hour drive to the outskirts of Beijing to the Longqingxia area next to where the 2022 Winter Olympics will be held. The quaint mountain tourist village houses a host of activities including various rides, a cable car to the peak, hiking trails, and an unusual ride up the long curving Dragon escalator to the top of a 60 meter dam that closes a narrow gorge with sharply rising canyon walls with small trees in beautiful Fall colors. Lisa was flexible with our desire to not do the peak hike today as we were still a bit sore from 3 days of serious hiking including a 7 mile stretch of the Jianjou to Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. The short boat tour in the cool shadowed waters of the gorge required we wear jackets to stay warm in the damp 50 degree F temperature. She guided us up to the 600 year old Buddhist Temple where we rang the old bell three times for peace, luck, and success. If you are inclined to paddle a boat in one of the canyons or bungee jump over the greenish gorge waters, you can join the adventurous few. We chose to take photos of a group of young Chinese chefs take the leap. My wife and I were disappointed in the lunch provided. It was a simple villager meal of rice, fried eggs, cooked lettuce, and fried bits of chicken. Lisa and our driver took us to the unusual 1000 year old Guayana man made Caves for a moderate hike of paved paths and stairs in and around “apartments” carved deep into the natural granite of this unique canyon. All in all we enjoyed our day with “Lisa” and would recommend.

After 1.5 weeks in china (shanghai, suzhou, hangzhou, beijing), this was one of my favorite days. Perhaps I was just ready for some great scenery, this certainly fulfilled that with the river cruise. And the caves were very interesting, as well as scenic, a little like USAs anasazi cave dwellings of mesa verde. Also, our guide, Jerry, was truly excellent ... spoke great English, letting us set the pace, asking what we wanted, as well as filling in with history and explanations. He also helped get us a delicious traditional meal even though we had very challenging diets. Additionally, he suggested a great evening show (Golden Mask Dynasty) and helped us procure the tickets. Also, our driver, mr. Hu, could not have been better. He was conscientious to make sure we always had water, used a translate app while jerry was getting tickets, to see if we needed facilities, plus waited for us after the evening show to take us home. Both were a great team. Just be aware, it is about 2 hours each way given Beijing traffic ... but plenty to see and talk about along the way. Highly recommend this tour

I really enjoyed my day visiting the Gorge and cave dwellings. Lisa was a terrific guide. Very personable, easy to converse with and a delight to be around. The driver was also excellent and spoke English. The clean newer minivan was a bonus!

Private tour with Maggie from Lilly’s tour company. Beautiful scenery mountains, great hike. Was a bit cold in the morning.

  • 09-Oct-2019

I booked this tour directly with Lily’s Beijing Tours. Our group of 5 (4 adults and 1 child-age 8) enjoyed the scenery. I wish I had known it would be a little cool in the morning (we weren’t prepared), but after a couple of hours it warmed up. Our guide was Lisa and she was knowledgeable and spoke great English. We were mesmerized by the ancient cave dwellings and wish we had more information about the place. It was incredible. So many question about those that lived there and then what happened. My son really enjoyed the cave dwellings. The gorge boat ride is about 15 minutes each direction with some nice views. You feel like you are someplace far from civilization- it was just what our group needed after 5 days in Beijing. This is a great option to get outside of the city and see some nice scenery, do little hiking, and get some fresh air.

This was a great day and an opportunity to see some of the countryside outside of Beijing. The boat trip on the gorge was excellent and my advise would be to bring warm clothes as it gets very cold on the water. Lunch at the local restaurant was sensational - beautiful chinese fare and the Cave dwellings were very interesting. A great day

A very good trip to see outside of the inner Beijing district. Nice clean air with some spectacular views of the gorge as you wind your way round on the boat. It is a long way out of town, made worse for us by the Chinese anniversary holidays. However our guide Albert and his driver did their utmost to get us there safely and in the quickest time, in very heavy traffic. Just a note to the tour operator, if you need to contact customers it would be better to leave a message with tihe Hotel as not everyone has their phone switched on. If that had happened we could have set off an hour earlier. That aside it was an excellent day with Albert the guide being an excellent host, also choosing some interesting dishes for lunch. The trip to the caves was also intriguing with the overriding question left as to who did create them and why? Perhaps we shall never know.

This tour was definitely one for the books. I highly suggest this tour for anymore who wants to experience nature at its finest. The scenery was amazing! We had such a great time with our tour guide, Nancy. She is so upbeat and full of life. She was very knowledgeable and told us about the history of each location. She was patient with us going up the stairs. It was an absolute pleasure meeting her and spending the day with her. I highly, highly recommended this private tour. Trust me, you won’t regret it. And ask for Nancy!! (:
