Overview

Welcoming guests to Kauai since 2007, Luau Kalamaku is Hawaii's only luau show performed in-the-round, offering optimal views of the stage. Witness the unearthing of the pig from the traditional imu (underground oven) and enjoy a hula lesson. A craft fair featuring unique items by local artisans awaits on the sprawling lawn. Feast on a delicious buffet of local and familiar favorites and enjoy a Mai Tai from the open bar. The 45-minute main show tells the amazing story of the ancient Hawaiian legend of Kalamaku child of the new land." Through laughter, fear, seduction and fire, a new legacy is created, born from the cherished seeds of their ancestors. The theatrical luau show culminates with a fantastic fire dream featuring fire poi balls and traditional fire knife dancing.

Know More about this tour

Your journey begins in the early evening at Kauais Kilohana Plantation with craft demonstrations and Hawaiian games. Youll have the option to ride on the Kauai Plantation Railway (additional cost), the first new railroad built in Kauai in nearly 100 years.

Then, witness a traditional imu ceremony, where one of your main courses (pork) is unearthed from an underground oven. You can also order some yummy tropical drinks at the bar (own expense).

Youll then be treated to a scrumptious buffet dinner of lomi-lomi salmon, pork, ono and teriyaki chicken with vegetables and salads. Top it off with some fresh tropical fruit and dessert.

After dinner, head to your seats in the Luau Pavilion and watch a colorful performance of traditional Polynesian dancers, fire twirlers and knife dancers. Watch as they paint a vivid story of the journey of the first Tahitian voyagers to the Hawaiian Islands, displaying their hardship, drama and finally triumph. Sit back, relax and become immersed in the state-of-the-art media system and stage design.

At the end of the show, youll have the opportunity to take photos with the cast!

Before the luau there was time to walk around and look at craft huts. Had some good warmup music and dancing that was fun. The show was spectacular with all the dancers and acting. The luau food was good, not great.

It was like way to commercial - hundreds of people under a huge tent - with a lackluster buffet (yes wait in line to get your small plate) then, after a 30 min break (for no apparent reason) a grade school caliber show begins - after the show wait in long lines of traffic to get out - IMO - a waste of time and money (unless your into waiting in lines for a buffet and contrived performances.

The only challenge was transportation to and from this event. Had that been included or made more accessible it would be 5 stars!

This was actually my second time doing this luau; the first time with our family of 5 and this time on a couples trip. First of all I would skip the train ride unless you have kids with you - it''s really just a stop at a petting zoo and not the beautiful plantation ride that I recalled and the girl narrating the journey was deadpan and boring. So just buy the luau without train if it's adults to cut costs because it is spendy. But, if you're looking for an open bar with incredible drinks and strong mai tais then you are in the right place. One mai tai and I was ready to do the hula! Really though, very tasty drinks and we all enjoyed the different variety that we ordered....lava flow, mai tai, pina colada, etc. all were made with fresh fruit and nicely prepared. As for the food...ehhhhh....it was just OK. I know I read lots of reviews that it was fabulous but to me it's just a buffet. I would rather go to a luau where they unearth the pig and offer you a bite (Tahiti Nui next time). The salad and the desserts were my favorite part and my husband loved the koloa pork. The reason I give this luau 5 stars is the show, it really is that entertaining and awe inspiring. The music, costumes, fire dancers and hula dancers were thrilling and I would definitely go just to see the show with no food or drinks (well maybe just one of those kick butt mai tais lol). Wonderful production and we all gave a standing ovation to the performers!

The show was good however the drinks and food wasn’t. When we first got there we had to share a table with another party. We got there a bit later than they did due to getting on the train, they had already ate salad and we requested salad and never got it.
