Know More about this tour

Even in a country like Switzerland, which has the highest density of cable cars, it is not self-evident that a railway can serve for more than 100 years. Built as an act of pioneering in 1902 and later used as a tourist development, the cable car aerial tramway is now operated as a historical monument. The cableway still runs up and down largely on the original chassis and rails.

Take a comfortable short 12 min. bus ride from Lucerne train station to the little local mountain (700 metres above sea-level) a popular leisure place among locals close to Lucerne. After travel back in time by taking the 100 years old Funicular (10 min. ride) which still has its original Chassis, to the top of the mountain. A diverse range of leisure activities awaits visitors, with Vitaparcours fitness trails, childrens playgrounds and many barbecue points. From the viewing terrace of the mountain station, but also from many other places, the visitor can enjoy an impressive panoramic view. The mountain landscape and the metropolitan area of Lucerne, and Lake lucerne. And all of this is in the middle of fascinating, diverse and largely unspoilt nature.

Continue along the easily accessible alpine panoramic trail and enjoy views of Mt Pilatus, Mount Rigi, Mount Stanserhorn and Lake Lucerne all from a different perspective with a remarkable beauty. There are two restaurants on the way and a few local farms which sell their homemade produce (check for signs on the farmhouses, usually there is a room with the produce, a price list and a piggy bank, where you can pay).  Keep your inspiring walking on an easy, enjoyable trail through the gorgeous alpine forest until you reach another viewing platform from where you have picture postcard views over Lucernes well preserved Old town, city wall, the Lake and the Swiss Alps.

The Sonnenberg is not a high alpine hiking area. And yet it is ideal place for short hikes, nature lovers, photography enthusiast and professionals and for families. Being active, experiencing nature, playing and enjoying the free time playfully: the Sonnenberg invites you to a fun day over the rooftops of Central Switzerland.

Gentle hills with overwhelming views and then the soothing hike along panorama train and forest: an eclectic hike with lots of variety. By bus, Funicular and elevator.
