  • Lili was amazing! She was so friendly and considerate - not to mention prompt and cheerful :

We went to GuBei Water Village and made a few crafts - paper lanterns, paper cuts, and a dyed cloth. It was really quite easy to relax and just have fun in GuBei. Lili is really quite good at staging photos, and taking them when we weren't paying attention, so now we have some lovely pictures of us enjoying ourselves. We went in the off-season, so there weren't many places that were open for buying trinkets or souvenirs, but it was great to walk around and really see everything, rather than just seeing crowds of people everywhere.

This tour would be great for anyone with kids. There's a lot of crafty things to do in the village and there's even a kind of play area for younger kids. Or, you can do what my sister and I did and pretend that it's totally normal for 20-somethings to be making paper-lantern crafts and tye-dying cloths while your elderly father makes fun of you for being childish

The section of the Great Wall that we climbed - Simatai - was absolutely gorgeous! We could see it all day from the Village and the restaurant where we ate lunch. There weren't too many people on the wall and we took a cable car most of the way up so we only had to climb a couple hundred steps, instead of 1,000, to get onto the wall. Lili was great about making sure we stopped so that our knees could have a rest every now and again. I now understand why everyone says that they climbed the Great Wall, rather than walked on the Great Wall -- even once you're on it, there's still a lot of steps and climbing to do, but it was completely worth it just for the view and the appreciation we gained for the men that once built and lived on the wall.

This tour was amazing, and Lili was fabulous, and I can't wait to go back to Beijing so that I can go back to Gubei. It's a beautiful place to visit and I'm sure it's bustling and packed in the summer months, but I'll bet it only adds to the experience
