D-Day Sites Guided Tour
Join your informative guide trained by the museum's historians for an educational and poignant morning or afternoon tour of sites related to the Normandy landings on D-Day that helped the Allies win the war. You will set off in a luxury, air-conditioned minivan and travel first to the Arromanches-Les-Bains' artificial harbor, where Allied forces brought in the hundreds of vehicles and many tons of weapons and materials needed for their assault. You will get to watch the 20 minutes' long film "Normandy's 100 Days" at the Arromanches 360 circular Cinema.
Next, you will the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial at Colleville-sur-Mer, where white crosses stretching far in all directions symbolize the terrible cost of war. You will then continue to the clifftop Pointe du Hoc, where the US Army Ranger Assault Group mounted a heroic attack.
Your tour culminates with a drive past the main Normandy landing beaches including Omaha Beach and the opportunity to set foot on one of those beaches yourself.
Return to Mmorial de Caen after your 5-hour tour of D-Day sites with a much clearer understanding of how that fateful day helped define the outcome of World War II.

Our guide Cynthia was the best and gave us time to really take in the whole experience. She allowed us to take in the emotional experience of Taps being played at the American Veterans Cemetery when the flags was being lowered. She even put up with me as my bag of M and M Peanuts came out of my bag in the Van and were rolling all over the Van at every turn. Thank you for a very much for a wonderful educational experience. Will highly recommend this tour to family and friends. If you are lucky enough to have Cynthia as your guide you are in for wonderful experience.
We learned so much at the Caen Memorial Museum and were overcome with pride and emotion during the D-Day Beaches Tour. Frederic was an excellent tour guide.
The tour of the beaches and the American cemetery is moving and leaves you breathless. To see the bunkers, the bomb craters, the cliffs, and the thousands of white crosses in person just gave me the chills. It's a once in a lifetime experience. Our guide, Max, was full of information, historical detail. However, If you take a train from Paris, get the earliest one possible, We did not have enough time to tour the museum before our 1 pm tour. and there was no time after the tour to get into the museum as it closed for the day.
Overall great tour, would highly recommend. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and gave us a ton of information about all the D-Day sites that we wouldn't have known by just driving to them ourselves.
The tour was wonderful, a highlight of our trip for all six of us. The vehicle was clean and comfortable. The guide was well-spoken, friendly, and enthusiastic, as well as full of information at each stop -- she was a terrific guide and we felt comfortable with her driving as well! We thought the tour length was good, not too long or short, and the selection of points of interest to stop at were great. We specially enjoyed Point du Hoc and the American Cemetery.
The museum itself is also excellent -- if you have any interest in D-day or WWII, this is the best place to get a broad perspective coupled with terrific details of life and trials of the time. Although there are many military artifacts, the emphasis is less on equipment and more on the lives of those impacted by the war and how they coped with it.
The price was reasonable, and when we needed to amend our order to add an additional person, it was smoothly handled.
Overall we were very pleased.
However, we would make two comments for improvement. First, the air conditioner in the van was so loud, that those in the back seat could not hear the guide. It was a hot day, so we kept the air on, and rotated seating among ourselves.
Second, we specifically requested and were booked for a morning tour. We took special pains to drive to Caen early, to be certain we were there not later than 8:45 AM, arriving at 8:15. When we arrived we found the doors don't open until 9 AM, and when admitted, we were told by museum staff that morning tours were not offered at all this year, but they had booked us for the afternoon. Viator should have known the morning tours no longer exist, and advised us in advance, since we booked months ahead of time. This was an annoying discovery, because the 5-hour afternoon tour starts at 1 PM -- if we had a train to catch or other obligation in the afternoon before 6 PM or so, we would not have been able to take the tour at all -- not a good situation. This was our first Viator tour, so we will be wary of future bookings.
The Caen museum is very nice and tells the story well. The guided tour was good, but my friends and I are military history buffs, so we did not really learn anything new. For those who are not, however, the guides know their stuff and present it well. the small size of the groups is a plus.
This tour was exceptional and our guide Mario made it more so with his knowledge of the area and historical facts
Fantastic tour!! Axel was a phenomenal tour guide, providing a wonderful historical lesson about DDay history, battles and beaches. Kept me and my 11 year old captivated. Comfortable van, small group of six, perfect!!
GREAT DAY! Plenty of time to explore the Museum on your own. Our guide to the landing beaches was well-spoken and shared a lot of knowledge and history. I had visited the site previously several times but still learned things I had never heard before. I particularly enjoyed a bit of time to actually walk on Omaha Beach--very humbling experience.
Great tour! We went to the key WWII sites in a comfortable van. Our guide was very informative with maps and photos to better explain everything. We toured through the museum on our own the day before our guided tour. We learned a lot about the events leading up to D-Day as well as what occurred on D-Day and the days following. We had some free time at every stop as well, to explore a bit on our own.
