Know More about this tour

Head to the waterfront in Picton to meet your boat. Your captain welcomes you aboard and provides a safety briefing, before you set off on your cruise through the magnificent waterways of the Marlborough Sounds. Along the way, your captain talks about the landmarks you pass, notes the inter-island ferry routes, and points out wildlife such as birds, seals and dolphins.
After about an hour of traveling through Queen Charlotte Sound, you reach Ship Cove where your boat docks. Enjoy at least 30 minutes on your own to explore this island, where Captain James Cook anchored to resupply his ship, The Endeavor, visiting several times in the late 1700s. Interactions between Cooks crew and the local Maori people were some of the earliest contact between Maori and Europeans in New Zealand. Learn more about the natural and cultural history of the island from informative displays along the trails. You can also find a monument to Cook, a number of tall carved Maori statues, and a sheltered beach.
At the appointed time, return to your boat to cruise to Endeavor Inlet to pick up and drop off passengers that are staying in resorts around the area. From Endeavor Inlet, soak up spectacular views of the Marlborough Sounds as your boat returns to Picton, arriving after about an hour at the waterfront where your tour ends.

  • Excellent way to visit the small coves and travel around the Sound. The boat has refreshments and our Captain gave a good commentary.
We had the full trip which included a stop at the cove where Captain Cook first anchored Endeavor. This was a lovely surprise and we saw the memorial . We had fine weather so sat on the upper deck and enjoyed the breeze and sunshine.

  • Wonderful trip on Marlborough Sound ,interesting, well informed commentary. Excellent vessel with tea and coffee stop at Ships Cove where Captain Cook landed. Stops also at various lodges on the Queen Charlotte walking track.

  • Spectacular, breathtaking scenery, interesting commentary. We'd do this again and again if we could. Spectacular views everywhere you look.

  • The trip was good, scenery great but the commentary was lacking. The boat was in good order, comfortable and roomy. The crew need more direction on providing commentary.

  • Nice cruising tour, unfortunately the weather was not that good. We were one of the very few people aboard, if there are more people on the boat the athmosphere may be less relaxing. Even in the bad weather, amazing nature!

  • It was amazing trip around Malborough Sounds.

  • Highly recommend this operator. Friendly efficient and professional. Comfortable vessel and good value for money. The ships cove trip gives a good overall intro to the Queen Charlotte Sound area in comfort and convenience. Recomend staying at the Beachcomber motel/hotel about 100 meters from the wharf.
