In our Eyjafjallajkull winter tour we have several options, depending on weather and snow conditions. In all options, we explore the area around the volcano Eyjafjallajkull (and its icecap and outlet glacier Ggjkull).
In one option we cross the unbridged rivers on our way to Ggjkull, an outlet glacier of Eyjafjallajkull, where a flood from the eruption came down, dramatically changing the landscape (an entire lake disappeared!) A film about the eruption, shown at orvaldseyri Farm, and based on the farming familys experiences and feeling, is also very worth incorporating to this trip.
If the conditions are right we actually drive onto the glacier to get to the top crater. In good weather the scenery from the top is spectacular with a view over the inland of Iceland, the surrounding glaciers, the black beaches and the Westmann Islands (as well as, of course, a look into the vast crater from which over 500 tonnes of ash per second were at one time being ejected!).
