Know More about this tour

Depart Te Anau, the "Gateway to Fiordland" and enter the Fiordland National Park, to be mesmerized by the grandeur of this region. As you pass through the Eglington Valley, you will see ancient alpine beech forest, stunning waterfalls, and the famous Mirror lakes where the coach pauses for photo opportunities.

From here the tour progresses through the Upper Hollyford Valley, past the stunning Christie Falls and enters the 1.2 kilometer (0.75 miles) long Homer Tunnel, drilled through the solid rock of a mountain. As you exit the Homer Tunnel, prepare yourself for the breathtaking impact of the Cleddau Valley and the descent into Milford Sound.

Here you will join our luxury catamaran for cruise of the majestic Milford Sound, where you will see the wonders of Mitre Peak, glacier scarred rock walls that rise 1200 meters (3937 feet) vertically from the sea and waterfalls that tumble from hanging valleys and crash into the sound far below. After your cruise, reboard your coach for the return journey to Te Anau.

The coach tour guide was happy to share knowledge of the area and we liked his anecdotes too! The boat tour was great and we enjoyed the buffet very much as it had many types of food to select. Especially liked seeing the seals and going up to the Stirling Falls and getting sprayed! And the weather cooperated at Milford Sound with blue sky!

A bit chaotic pick up, 3 coaches from same company but nobody knew which coach they should be on. We left 30 minutes late. However once on our way the Argentinian driver gave us a fun and informative running commentary. The road to Milford Sound has only just been reopened to tour operators (but not private vehicles) hence the busyness with the coaches. Because the road is still being repaired we were unable to stop at a few of the beauty spots they would normally do. The boat tour was a good 1 and half hours with a good varied lunch offered. All very efficient. All though a long day trip it was well worth it.

The coach driver was excellent; he was very knowledgeable informative and personable. The Jucy cruise was great; theSkipper was also informative and personable. The buffet lunch was very good. Going on the coach was much more relaxing than self drive.

This was a great experience in one of the world's most beautiful places. We'd definitely recommend seeing the Milford Sound area via motorcoach so that you are free to view the incredible scenery without the stress of driving. We do have some comments however about the day:

The check-in process was a goat rodeo. There were a dozen motorcoaches and NO ONE to oversee boardings or provide directions in how to identify which bus was ours. (The "information desk" had a "back in 20 minutes" sign posted the entire 30 minutes prior to departure!! So no available staff at the Te Anau pickup location.) There were dozens of folks all trying to figure out which bus was theirs.... It was laughable.

The tour guide provided some interesting narrative and was quite personable. But compared to a different tour we experienced the following day, this narration was not nearly as detailed or broad as it could have been for this rich location. No narration on the return trip, only one-way.

The buffet lunch on the Jucy boat was wretched. (Do NOT pay for this!!). It was minimal, lukewarm, tasteless and almost disgusting. Given that lunch wasn't available till 2pm I'd recommend bringing your own lunch.

We would recommend taking a smaller coach and more locally-based naturalist tour of Milford Sound. If you're only going to do it once, avoid the big motorcoaches which only cater to mass movement of crowds.

Very informative ,lovely bus driver that even though was late through no fault of his own was upbeat and helpful.Cruise on Milford sound was great .Food not so much .Drive back had some dramas as Homer Tunnel closed for 4 hrs due car fire but again our bus driver was extremely professional and helpful.

The coach ride was fabulous and the boat ride was spectacular. Get on this tour from Te Anau rather than Queenstown

Pick up at Te Anau on time. Joined big bus, John the driver was very informative along the way. Glass roof was great to see top of mountain. Boat wasn’t over crowded. Thought food was ok, others must have thought great as back for seconds. Long day 9.45-5.30. Very enjoyable

A van picked us up at our hotel in Te Anau and took us to the town center (3 minute ride) to meet the bus tour. The driver/guide was great, giving us enough info to make the trip interesting without talking forever. We stopped a couple of times on the way to Milford for a photo op and a short walk. the boat trip was great, riding out through the sound, viewing and getting sprayed by the waterfalls, seeing the seals sunning on the rocks, and talking with a couple of American crew members. the buffet lunch on board was good, with alcohol for purchase. I highly recommend staying in Te Anau for this trip. The hotel rooms are cheaper than Queenstown, the drive to Milford Sound is almost 2 hours shorter than the Queenstown, and there's a range of shops, restaurants, and activities to keep you occupied

Fantastic day trip. Even though it rained the benefit was the extra waterfalls created on the mountains.

Great day trip, but the weather was not good. Enjoyed the stop at mirror lake and the falls. Our trip was spoilt as the coach driver/tour guide picked us up in Te Anau with an already coach load from Queenstown, and forgot to give us our boat tokens. We were therefore refused entry onto the boat for our cruise and had to track him down to assist. We did manage to go on a different much larger boat, not what we had booked. The buffet on the boat was ok but nothing special.
