This tour was mediocre at best. The tour guide was not passionate or overly knowledgeable of the subject. She told a few stories, but did not really paint a thorough logical picture of the history and did not make it come alive. One got the sense the tour guide was there to provide the minimum in order to collect her pay. The tour guide talked about herself and her personal life as much as the subject matter, interjecting her political opinions in addition to the tour. She repeated several times that California gave away too many free-bees which is why none of the buildings were open to the public and she mentioned how good the stock market was doing under President Trump. You couldn't get a word in edgewise and she didn't ask if we had any questions. OBNOXIOUS. The whole thing was weird now that I look back on it. As it turned out, we could have easily done the walking tour ourselves and used our iphones to get the same information.... THAT is what I suggest you do. The city does an excellent job for free it turns out. We would have been happier giving money to the State of California to keep up the buildings and history rather than this business and I did donate money at the customs house. We have been on many tours in many locations and have never had one this bad.

Excellent tour! Thom Diggins was our guide and he was absolutely AMAZING! His knowledge of Monterey history was extremely impressive, and he presented it in a fascinating way. There was so much to see, and Thom had interesting history and anecdotes for everything we saw and everywhere we stopped along the way. I was not ready for the tour to be over! I highly recommend the Historic Monterey walking tour with Thom Diggins. Next time my husband and I are excited to try the Cannery Row walking tour.

Tom was an excellent guide around the city. He answered all our questions, remembered all our names, and shared a lot of his own insights while giving us a detailed account of the history of Monterey.
