  • The tour was not as advertised. The Viator site claimed the tour lasted 11 hours, which included 2 hours driving to Monteverde. Our day lasted more than 16 hours, including about 10 hours worth of driving! The reason was that once we were picked up at our resort at 4:20 a.m. from Tamarindo we proceeded to drive several more hours picking up other people at hotels and other stops long distances away. We were not informed about this and would definitely have avoided it if we had known. Further, the pictures indicated we would be seeing the hanging bridges which we never did. We also did not have a sugarcane or cheese tour as stated in the tour description. We spent over an hour at breakfast and over an hour at lunch. We only spent about 1 1/2 hours walking through the forest never saw any monkeys, sloths, etc., 1 /12 hours at the Don Juan coffee tour and about 1/2 hour seeing butterflies. There was no hummingbird tour. If we had known, we would have arranged private transport to Monteverde and booked a tour there.

  • Tour guide was terrific especially when he had to deal with another family who felt entitled to show up late putting whole bus of 31 late. I wish our party of 9 had been informed earlier that we would be riding on a large bus rather than the 10 passenger van email said to expect. Bus ride was very long as cloud Forrest was 3 1/2 hours away and we started late instead of 4:45 as aforementioned family was 15 minutes late. Breakfast was good and the lunch was fantastic. Cloud forest was beautiful with lots of birding actio . If you have small children avoid the long bus ride. That being said the guide was marvelous and knowledgeable and the driver was certainly well qualified for steering large bus over very narrow winding narrow mountain roads. Improvements to tour should consist of smaller groups where bus doesn't have to stop at 4 or 5 hotels in different towns to pick up passengers. But Costa Rica is a gorgeous county and its citizens very friendly and inviting.

  • Beautiful place but OMG the drive to get here is way too long and the roads are SO bumpy!!!! I have never seen anything like it.

  • Our tour guide was amazing! He shared information about the flora and fauna found in this rain forest. One of the biggest thrills for me was that we came up on a Green Viper resting after eating. The guide made sure we were safe and monitored while we took pictures even taking pictures for us when we asked! More than I expected!

  • There were a host of issues with this tour. The operations were poorly managed--we waited over an hour in a parking lot at 5 AM because of a mixture of other people's lateness and the tour company being early.
Despite showing a picture of the Monteverde cloud forest, you don't go there. You simply visit their on a short hike. The hike was unbearably slow, to the point where my travelling companion and I went off on our own.
The tour guide was less than knowledgeable. Provided meals were average, at best breakfast itself was the worst I had all trip.
When I reached out to CAtours to request a refund, it took me over a dozen emails, a phone call, and over two weeks of waiting to a measley 20 back. I'm thoroughly disappointed with both the quality of the tour and the customer service. Please don't waste one of your limited days on vacation with this tour company.

  • Our tour guide was great and very informative. However, I would not book again through Viator for the following reasons:
We did not go on a cheese factory tour, despite what was listed in the description. It was taken out of our itinerary without explanation.
There were NO aerial canopy bridges during this tour. Essentially we just hiked through a nature reserve for 1-2 hours in the morning but we did not get great views of the actual cloud forest of Monteverde. While Viator's description didn't explicitly say that there would be sky bridges, it appears from reading other reviews that some people did get to go on canopy bridges, while others did not. Also, the stock photo for this tour contains a sky bridge in it.

Overall, I was disappointed with Viator's false-advertising of this tour and I will not be booking any other Viator tours in the future.

  • Very long trip up to the cloud forest! The walk was too short45 minutes didn't get to go to the cheese factory!! Good trip though! I didn't get to see many animals, but I did get to have a hummingbird land on my hand!!!

  • This tour was amazing, but tiring all the same. Be prepared to get up before dawn for your hotel pick up. The tour guide could have been more informative on the drive up Monteverde, but the views from the 6,400 feet elevation were spectacular. Our favorite part was the Don Juan Coffee, Chocolate and Sugar cane tour - our guide Hairo was attentive and fun! We did not get to cross the canopy bridges in the Cloud Forest as depicted in the pictures, so that was quite disappointing. Breakfast was good, and the lunch was fair. The lunch location was the hit with hummingbirds swarming all around the porch and great views down the mountainside. Driving through the small towns up the mountain was interesting - you see how the locals live. I recommend this tour for those that cannot do extreme adventure tours in Costa Rica - but to climb the trail in the rain forest does take some exertion. A for the Don Juan Tour...C- for the Rain Forest Tour and B for the Butterfly Garden Tour. DO NOT TRY AND DRIVE UP TO MONTEVERDE TO TAKE THIS TOUR ON YOUR OWN. Transportation is included for a reason!! There is NO WAY a regular vehicle can climb the roads up, and the guides are needed because this place is very remote.

  • Monteverde is a must see! The hanging bridges and lush forest are such a magical experience. Best part was getting to hold a hummingbird! So cool! Walking paths and bridges are really manageable. Only disappointment is that the tour description lists that we would be visiting a coffee plantation and cheese factory however, we did not get to do this. Not sure if it was because we had a small group and the guide thought it wasn't worth it? Regardless, tour description listed that we would be doing these activities and was included in what we paid for, so not getting to do them is really unprofessional. Butterfly garden is ok, not really worth seeing to be honest. I also hoped to see some sloths in Monteverde, but didn't. Saw more wildlife at Andaz. Ride to Monteverde is extremely long and bumpy roads. Well worth enduring, but be forewarned. This tour is great, just make sure to give everyone what you're describing. False advertisement, but still a really amazing experience. I recommend this one!!

  • Our guide was very very nice and informative but I wasn't impressed with the tour itself in that we never got to any of the hanging bridges, etc. I would choose another tour company
