Overview

Enjoy a memorable evening where you will discover the grim past of Montral's Old Red Light District. This unique 90-minute haunted Ghost Walk is sure to please ghost hunters, history buffs and Halloween lovers with its creepy tales of paranormal activity and the ghostly spirits who haunt the heart of Montral's Quartier des spectacles (entertainment district), once the most notorious Red Light District in all of North America. Led by a professional actor and storyteller, hear twisted tales about the dark and salacious history of the old Red Light District and visit exterior sites that are reputed to be haunted. Learn about Montral's transformation from a strictly religious colony into "Sin City" and how the clergy tried to stop it at every turn. Montral's shady Red Light history will be laid bare, with tales of haunted theatres and hotels, a deranged Victorian waxworks museum, paranormal encounters in old brothels, a ghost street, and ghastly murder.

Know More about this tour

Accompanied by your storyteller, you will stroll through the streets of Montral's Quartier des spectacles (entertainment district), the city's former Red Light District. The tour starts from the Midway Tavern and ends near the corner of Ontario St. East & Sanguinet St. The activity includes stops at exterior sites that are reputed to be haunted or where significant events unfolded, such as Peace Park, Monument National and Thtre du Nouveau Monde.

You will hear about some of the most notorious characters from the era, such as bank robber Machine-Gun Molly, Burlesque Queen Lili St. Cyr, and brothel-owner Marcel Les-Dents-en-Or.  The spirit of McGill University's most infamous graduate, abortionist and serial killer Dr. Thomas Neill Cream, is said to haunt the area to this very day.

Despite the best efforts by authorities to "clean up" the unsavory neighborhood, whether through brothel raids, legal battles, theatre closures, the demolition of entire city blocks, or the rebranding of the entire neighbourhood as the Quartier des spectacles, the ghosts of the Red Light District still remain!
