Overview

Learn about the Capoeira culture that was born in Baha, Brazil! Feel the roots of the Capoeira as you connect with the sea, the forest, and, finally, with a few Caipirinhas at a local spot in Morro de So Paulo!

Know More about this tour

Your Morro de So Paulo tour will begin at Aureliano Lima Square, the main square of the city, where your local guide will be waiting for you. From there, well make our way toward the shore, walking along sandy beach streets and past the palm trees of the Atlantic Forest.

As you wander, your guide will explain to you the history and tradition of capoeira, the Brazilian martial art that mixes dance, acrobatics, and music. Youll also learn about African immigration to Baha and how it continues to influence local culture even to this day. Youll also learn about Orishas, the deities of the Yoruba religion. Well have our own little blessing to the goddess Iemanja, the Afro-Brazilian goddess of the sea, and then pass by the "La Fuente Grande" fountain, part of the oldest aqueduct in Brazil.

Your Capoeira class will take place at a house in the forest, amid jungle trees. Our teacher is part of a 25-year-old tradition on the island and he will explain a bit about Capoeira before we start our training. Dont worry if youre not a martial artist! This class is for beginners and experts alike, and no matter your skill, youll feel the link between your body and the traditional music. Capoeira is not only a martial art, but also a dance and a spiritual connection. Capoeira is a great introduction to Bahan culture, and best of all, youll get to experience it while meeting locals and new friends!

After your class, well head to a nice local spot and order up some Caipirinhas (a classic Brazilian cocktail) and appetizers, and youll have the chance to ask any questions and learn more about Morro de So Paulo.

Your tour will finish back at the starting point, but the night will still be young, so be sure to ask your guide for dinner recommendations or where to go out dancing at night!

I highly recommend the tour. Mario was an exceptionaly polite and well spoken tour guide. The capoeira class was professionaly instructed by a good teacher who was well versed in the art.
